  1. Have you mounted the transfer box at the same angle as the gearbox? I was going to comment on the extreme angle of the inter-box prop and then realised I was trying to mate up the gearbox to the output flange for the front axle prop :wow: :rotfl::n00b:
  2. If you go for the 5 speed Turner box, best to get one with direct top gear (same as 4 speed). The overdrive top 5 speed box gives pretty much the same spacing of first 4 ratios as the 4 speed box, thereby making it just as useless bad on hills once the higher top speed has fallen away! These boxes are getting hard to find as is a lot of stuff now…...
  3. As soon as the jigsaw was delivered, Roy wasted no time in getting the two parts of the chassis lined up and welded together. Antony was cameraman that day as well as assisting in the operation, but unfortunately his laptop caught a bug and ended up in intensive care before he had a chance to share his images. We don't yet know if the photos can be retrieved - meanwhile the story needs to catch up with events. Here is the chassis after becoming one again and with a repaired grille: The cab started out in two pieces - just a couple of small tender areas to tidy up before they could be joined…
  4. Roy sitting in Roger's White, just trying to get an idea how all those bits might fit together!
  5. Small capacity resistors are available to instal in the feed to the fuel gauge (+ve feed to resistor to gauge to tank sender unit to earth). Pretty much everything else is a bulb change (plus flasher unit if fitted). What vehicle are you looking at?
  6. Richard - the caps on my batteries are all tight - it must be the combination of 25 years plus and the tiny breather hole in the cap which has done for them! Absolutely no sign of packaging failure.
  7. Clive - my local battery distributor (a privately owned large auto electrical components factor) is happy to fill, charge and monitor at a sensible price (we've been customers for a lot of years). So there must be a few others out there. Alternatively, a 'fill-your-own' pack is available from Lincon, who manufacture rubber cased batteries: http://www.lincon.co.uk/accessories.html While I have your attention - do you have any thoughts about my mention of them advising waste of time filling batteries with white on the plates on Champ's other battery thread?
  8. I have some RL batteries, but probably younger and not subjected to anywhere near as much damp as that box, as the outer box is not wood but really thick cardboard in pristine condition. Labelled as dry charged. I gave a couple to a friend who took them to be filled by a local and very genuine battery guy - who looked inside and advised that since there was some whitening of the plates it would be most unlikely that they would hold charge. I was surprised. Suggest you undo a cap and have a look inside. A new equivalent would probably cost in region of £70 plus VAT.
  9. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/RARE-ORIGINAL-JAN-14TH-1918-EXHIBITION-OF-WW1-WAR-MODELS-BOOK-TANKS-ZEPPELIN-RFC-/301445487540?pt=UK_Collectables_Militaria_LE&hash=item462f8d1bb4 Unusual item!
  10. Interesting they show 3.6 x 6. At some stage the designation must have changed to 36 x 6, which is 36" o.d. less 2 x 6" tyre height = 24" rim. One example is a 34 x 7 would be 34" less 2 x 7" = 20" rim. Which is same as a later 7.50 x 20 tyre since tyres were later designated by width (7.5") instead of height (7"). So 36 x 6 should be equivalent to something like a modern sizing of 6.50 x 24? (o.d. 36"). Which would be a bit thinner and smaller diameter than a 7.50 x 24 (o.d. 38"). They look in great condition!
  11. The screw-attached end is on a spline so the angle of the blade can be altered. I'm sure these came from one of the Jeep parts suppliers recently.
  12. You're right Richard - I just laid them out quickly yesterday for a photo. But when trying to hook them together, the width of the lug on blade C is too big to fit slot B on arm. Also the length of the tang on the arm A is too long to allow blade to hook through. Tried bending it back but still no good. I've never had to file any before - is there an incompatibility with some pattern parts?
  13. I admit defeat - assistance required! Here is a standard wiper blade and a standard wiper arm. After many years of using these, admittedly losing quite a few blades along the way, we are now unable to even put together new examples of each. So what blade goes with this arm, and what arm goes with this blade? :???
  14. Welcome back. Its been so long I half expected to see your TM 6x6 in the disposal line on my recent visit to Withams……. I like the foil overlay idea for panel depth!
  15. Some footage from 1913: https://grrc.goodwood.com/race/historic/video-28-5-litre-fiat-s76-attempting-land-speed-record
  16. Great work there - a major effort to get this far. I guess that is $2950 a per track, i.e. $5900 a pair?
  17. For WLA clothing have you tried standuphookup1941 - Dennis Smith? The website doesn't seem to open though.
  18. Not only that - check out Goncalo's pic here: http://hmvf.co.uk/forumvb/showthread.php?38334-Sterling-DDS150-Torpedo-Crane-US-Navy-WW2 Not exactly the same crane tower construction, but the installation is similar - also stabiliser legs look same as on the GMC rear. Still wondering if the 7144 and 352 might be a post WW2 conversion?
  19. Well spotted, Reo!! There are too many similarities for them not to be one and the same crane type.
  20. My initial thought was that we should not be putting so much energy into commemorating the START of something so horrific - rather we should save our energy for the celebration of its ending. But I guess there is a subtle distinction between commemorating and celebrating. The important thing is that whatever we do we should never FORGET. To that end whatever has already been done, and whatever is done over the next 4 years must surely be a good thing - it has certainly raised awareness already, and that must be a good thing.
  21. Well - WLF Series 3, 4, 5 Jib on front of tank DT969 USAAF Federal C-2 USAAF Trackson crawler crane USAAF big LeTourneau single axle crane towed behind/operated by rope scraper winch on crawler Must be something else??
  22. I totally support your view about saving the poppies until 2018. Hopefully there will be no fireworks……...
  23. If you do get it sorted the info would be useful - thanks in advance!
