  1. Hi Alex, Before you embark on an ambitious exercise, you should go to the museum just outside Port en Bessin in Normandy. There are tanks and other artifacts recovered from the sea around the D-Day beaches. By this time the corrosion is set in deep and I doubt whether you could do anything with them, save for treating them with a stabiliser such as Fertan and putting thm on static display. The museum exhibits have been treated, the product name was displayed, but I forget it now. Strangely, anything rubber is near perfect, all the lettering on bogie wheels just like new.
  2. It is definitely Great Dorset Steam Fair, so it might be worth contacting David Fletcher at the Tank Museum, regarding identifying the owner of the Panhard. I recall David used to run the Military section at one time.
  3. Stefano, Those in charge in Bayeaux had no sense of history at all.
  4. Not by choice, we would have been there, but no British vehicles invited :-(
  5. Hi Ed, look forward to seeing your photos !
  6. Thanks for posting those. I was in that parade, riding with a friend in his Brockway and lowloader trailer. We were behind Dennis Robert's Diamond T, but looks like we were missed, as the White 666 following us was filmed. Not all of us on the MVT camp got passes for the parade, hence why I hitched a lift. There was a hold up when a Sherman that was "uninvited", was abandoned in the street and we had to drive around it. A lot of well known faces to be seen.........and vehicles.
  7. I know you have appeared to have pinned the knock down to No.4 cyl, but before getting too deep, check the points gap and then ignition timing. If the points have a reduced clearance, it will advance the ignition, also wear on the dist. shaft bushes will not help matters. It might be that No. 4 seems the culprit but it could just be wear in the distributor. I have seen this before.
  8. Richard, As John says, talk to Cox & Turner, in fact their workshop is quite near to you, at Tintinhull near Yeovil. They only deal with vintage engine work, I have had work done by them ( not whitemetaling though) and they are excellent.
  9. Richard, try these people; http://www.gardnerspares.com/parts-by-engine/gardner-6lw.aspx
  10. Thanks Andy, Odd thing is it never broke down in previous ownership, now it has failed to proceed two years running on a parade
  11. I seem to recollect someone posted a photo or video of it on tow last year, sounds like it is getting lazy :-D
  12. Hi Mike, The Coles crane is mounted on an Austin K6. it used to belong to a friend of mine until he sold it to the museum. Nice to see it out, still bearing the signs and numbers I painted on. When they bought it there was talk of it being marked up as RAF and put on display amongst the aircraft in the hangers.
  13. Barry, There always was a box to cross on the front, and on the reverse they used to mention submitting a V112G. This form is still available on the DVLA website to download, it is the 2009 edition, where you enter the exemption number from the list on reverse. Will take a V112G with me just in case they ask. Have been going through this procedure for last 23 years and it is far easier now.
  14. Just received my tax reminder for a pre-1960 Historic lorry. Nothing extra on the form, and no mention now of submiting a V112G when claiming exemption.
  15. Paul, Be aware that Bedford lorries in general, often used two different thickness for leading and trailing shoes. My MJ book is not directly at hand, but it should be obvious by depth of the rivet head from the working surface.
  16. You will probably have to ask for 80mm, which is as near as dammit 3 1/8". Try this link as well; http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Black-Silicon-Straight-Heater-Hose-1-Metre-80mm-/170654583258?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item27bbce49da&clk_rvr_id=241787271663&x=28&y=11
  17. Hi Andrew, That will keep you busy for a few months ! I know it is a while off, but I had some of the spring seats made for the Snipe staff car and can recommend the company, just save the remains so they have a pattern to work to. regards, Richard
  18. Roger, Here is some info; http://thekneeslider.com/archives/2011/02/24/morgan-3-wheeler-official-photos/ Always wanted one of the original ones with a v-twin JAP, apparantly my grandfather had one in the late Twenties.
  19. Paul, I don't think I have seen a Vulcan in flight since the old West Malling airshows. Then they used to give it the works and set all the car alarms off with the shock waves. It looked very sedate today.
  20. That could be one of the new Morgan production models, saw one on a publicity film recently with "M-roundel-G" on the side. They have a US made V-twin engine.
  21. The Vulcan, just passed over my home at very low altitude, heading for a display over Margate.
  22. Hi Marmon, I saw your other thread re. Tyre Pressures. As you have fitted these ex- Bed MJ Goodyear tyres to a SUMB, I am not at all sure you can use the recommended pressures from a MJ as there is quite a difference in vehicle weight between the two vehicles. Perhaps you should seek advice from your local tyre depot on this. regards, Richard
