  1. Steve, The last photo you posted, of the panel with mass of loose wiring, there is a circuit board missing from it, which had about 30 relays, voltage stabiliser, remote proportional control, time delay relay, and so on. If you wish to put you own remote on, for the winch, and use the crane only from the operators seat, you could simplify this somewhat. Will look up those pressures. regards, Richard
  2. Hi Diana and Jackie, The corect welding rods to use for armour plate are Nickel Chrome. regards, Richard
  3. Tellus is a Shell brand name for hydraulic fluids, been around for donkeys years, it is the suffix after Tellus that denotes the grade.
  4. If you can get hold of the wiring diagrams, it is quite easy to follow. I may be able to identify numbers for you, and those pressures you asked about. Found my notes last night, then internet failed. Will try and find time tonight. The wiring is more complex because of the various controls around the vehicle. regards, Richard
  5. I have only just seen this post and realise it is a year old. Just a word of warning to anyone with a Bedford MK multi-fuel. Do not be mislead to think you can use a contaminated mix of fuel in them ( ie diesel and petrol), it will cause you big trouble. The Bedford 330 Multi-fuel was designed only for Diesel or Aviation Turbine fuel.
  6. As the porcelain insulator on No2 HT lead is missing, there is every chance the spark is going to earth in there and not sparking the plug. That would be the first thing to fix.
  7. Hi Clive, It might have been that you had a distorted wheel. I can recall having to remove a Pig tyre from a rim, due to shrapnel through the tyre wall. We had a huge hydraulic machine for pressing off tyres, and this tyre was so tight, been on for years I reckon, that it bent the centre of the rim, had to turn it over and press the other way to get it back straight again, so just shows that it could happen. regards, Richard
  8. Glad I took my test in the good old days, when the examiner watched you from the roadside. He told me to go around the block until he stopped me, on second circuit, I spotted him queueing in the bakers shop !!!
  9. Not got an invoice to hand, but I think a few months ago it was about £18 for 5 litre can
  10. Look a bit further on Machine Mart website, they have SAE 30 Engine oil, suitable for 4 stroke engines. Cannot say it is much cheaper than Comma Classic 30 from motor factors though, and that is a good oil.
  11. Robert, No air involved on this system. I used to work on these vehicles in REME workshops, sorting out crane problems, load testing, etc and did a course with Atlas Hydraulics on testing and diagnosis. Last time I was working on one, was 15 years ago now, but still got my notes. One came in from Bosnia after having an accident, crane wiring had shorted and burnt, very clever stuff, all cables the same colour with little ID sleeves on the end.
  12. ISO VG10 or VG15. What you have used is a heavier hydraulic oil, so could make it slow.
  13. No ! I think you will find that DOT5 is a silicone type fluid.
  14. Hi Vicente, What type of oil did you fill the flywheel with after changing the seal?
  15. Hi Peter, My post about draining was a jokey one, it would be an awful mess to be honest, the best way would be to remove the gearbox, find a pipe fitting to fit the flywheel, or a drilled out filler plug with a piece of pipe in it, that way you could slowly turn the flywheel, while the oil poured out into a can or tray. Any other way will be very messy!
  16. 1. Remove flywheel filler plug 2. Turn engine exactly half a revolution so other plug is visible 3. Prepare for a flood of approx 9 pints of oil throughout the hull :-D
  17. Hi Andy, Just a point about your fluid equivalent chart. Brake fluid in Mk1 and Mk2 Ferrets is definitely not mineral, DOT3 and 4 is a synthetic fluid. Now, the Ferret Mk4 uses OM13 as it has disc brakes. OM, means Oil, Mineral and OF is Oil, Fatty (ie vegetable or synthetic)
  18. Try agricultural suppliers and machinery dealers, often find Straight 90 and 140 gear oils are stocked by them.
  19. Hi Ian, There were two groups of numbers starting with 555 for jeeps, M5557518 to 5558171 Ford GPW Contract no. S2275 M5558376 TO 5559875 Ford GPW / Willys MB No contract number, shown as ex-USA Re. QL will keep an ear open. Richard
  20. Adrian, I just happened to have the book to hand, sorry
  21. Ian, M1500669 was not your jeep's original census number. This number is from a group allocated to "rebuilt vehicles", where they have gone though a rebuild programme and lost their identity. This would have been during or shortly after the war.
