  1. The rich collectors can employ minions so never get thier hands dirty. The rest of us spend a lot of time in the mud checking everything and panicking if the rattle appears, or disappears unexpectedly. :-D Listen to you vehicle, it will tell you if something is wrong!
  2. I'd agree with Richard. Modern Multi viscosity EP oils are far superior to stuff even ten years ago. Plant machinery tends to run at a constant load, on a vehicle loads are constantly changing.
  3. Wern't some of the stars themsleves gas paint?
  4. Was it 2008? I was up there by chance the day it arrived, The organic camouflage it carried at the time was very good!
  5. If it is any help. On the Land Rover 101 there is the same problem when oil is drained and filter changed. Oil pump won't prime itself. The method there is to remove front plate of pump and pack Petroleum Jelly into the gap bettween the cog wheels. Then add oil and start. You could also fill the filter with fresh oil before fitting, provided it won't pour out.
  6. No, I woudn't risk it. It seems just as easy to get a larger tube. I'd also look for new tubes rather than NOS. Rubber don't like being left about. If a big tyre goes no matter what speed it can definitley ruin a lot of people's days. The beauty of split rims is that they are east to fit new tyres, provided! You take some basic precatuions.
  7. Everything is now 'Computer guided'. So what ever comes up on the screen, monkey see monkey told. Unfortunatley, Monkey up at DVLA seems to have taken the lazy option and dumped all utility Land Rovers at higher weight, regardless of wheelbase or age.Seems to be working on the idea of making an arbitiry decison, then jutify job sorting out the cock ups.
  8. Best bet find a friendly commercial tyre place and go have a chat.
  9. If there are a lot of bearings in the middle, definitley oil. I thought about using grease in the hubs of my WC 54 , but unlike a Land Rover the hub is fed directly with oil through the axle, so one shot is definite no go if you have that system.
  10. I've just phoned Phl, his QL has that size tyres. The tubes are 11 X20, you can get them from commercial tyre places. Yes you do need the rubber inserts, They prevent the tube turning and chaffing. Hope this helps.
  11. And, is there any way of clearing photos out of the albums? Stuf fthat was only relevant to one post is still clogging the system.
  12. Best bet is classic car magazine. They used to do a price range guide. Tilleys make around the £5 to 7000 mark. But as usuaul , what are you prepared to pay and what will the seller expcet. 1939 Wolsleys in running but cometically rough go for about £2000. Top rate about £5000
  13. My experience at least is one shot grease is fine, as long as you add a bit of EP 90 to it. Stripping the hubs the grease seems to spin to the outside leaving a hollow in the centre. Mixing with some oil to make it runnyer seems to work a lot better.
  14. Good news is 9 X 16 tubes are quite easily available. Last one I got was about £20 mark.
  15. A man with a proper Dodge. No untidy load of string on the front.
  16. Welcome Garry. Nice to have you on board.
  17. Should have been, wetsuit mask snorkel and flippers. Doesn't look like it's going to be much of a show season
  18. Anyone know the suggested torque for the split rim flange holding nuts? Other than as tight as you gan get them.
  19. Welcome Moe, you wouldn't like to come and paint some real ones would you? Nice work.
  20. Tell them that the paint will change colour in the presence of a clever person. They'll stand there for hours waiting. :cool2:
  21. Probably not, at least with me once known, the rest of your life is trying to forget.
  22. Hi Gareth, yes there were Dodges in Europe. If you want pictures the Tank Musuem have a nice set of photos. I have posted them on the forum.
  23. You're in the 'depends ' catergory for LGV, but you drive an MV nyway! :-D
