  1. I am in the process of a 'slow & gradual' restoration of my WC51 and have found it to be 'mostly' a great deal of fun and enjoyment!! (not joking......really!!) I support both Gordon and Goran in their views that they are really easy bits of kit to lookafter and restore - almost a large airfix kit if you keep a record of what bolt goes where when you take them off!! In terms of looking out for things... there's always the usual mechanical and electrical stuff to consider as you would any vehicle - eg;- whining gear box, engine knocking, intermittent electrics, etc.... however I would strongly recommed you try and find one that has been in Norway as much of their stuff was dry stored in the post-war years and had very little use. As an example mine came from Norway and has very little 'proper' rust on it and is being sorted by a little sanding to bring to bare metal to clean up before painting.. If you find one in France for example I have seen them very rusty in the cargo compartments of the rear bed or the cap floor - which are not very big jobs, but they are more work!!! Also.... brakes.... you will probably find that if the truck has been sitting for some time the brakes need replacing or at least 'work'. As the guys have already said, parts are very easy to get hold of and there is a cracking support network of people around the world on different forums, including HMVF who are willing to help / advise / etc... I suppose, in the end, it depends upon what you want to spend and what condition of vehicle you are willing to go for. You could easily spend around £3k on a barn wreck needing almost complete renovation upto nearly £12k for an almost perfect example with new canvas, correct bar-grip tyres and other 'stuff' included.... Have fun looking....and enjoy... Gareth
  2. How do I post an image when it constantly says my image file size is too large?!?!?!? Is there a trick around this?
  3. Might try and come along - know Kemble very well as wife was part of Delta Jets whilst it lasted and has a Pilots Licence which allowed her to fly the Provost - which she absolutely loved!!!! If I don't make it this weekend I can see us coming over at some point anyway, she gets itchy when she's away from planes for too long!!!!!!! ;-)
  4. HI there Gareth - I am between Stroud & Ciren so not far from you - perhaps we can meet up at some point and swop notes on how not to / how to restore a rusty old military vehicle!! Cheers, Gareth
  5. Greetings all, Aparently I have not introduced myself despite being a member since 2009!! How time flies!!! I am restoring a 1942/43 WC51 in my 'spare time' in my garage here in Gloucestershire and thought I would contact members of this forum for help from time to time. I am an active user of the WW2 Dodge Forum which continues to be a valuable source of info and help but I thought I would try and see if there are any owners local to me and see what is happening on the local scene. Cheers, Gareth
  6. Gordon & Tony.... Do I perhaps recognise you from elsewhere????? Or is it just an 'amazing' coincidence?!?!?! Gareth
  7. Hello to all Dodge owners, I am gradually (slowly) restoring a 1942/3 WC51 in my garage in Gloucestershire and wondered if there are any other WW2 Dodge owners located in Gloucestershire for me to call on and compare bits with from time to time!?!?! Although I have been a member of this forum since 2009 these are my first posts as I have concentrated a lot on the WW2 Dodge Forum - sorry!! Originally I wanted to paint / mark up in British livery but know that there were almost none in the ETO as any British versions seem to have been out in Burma / Far East postings, etc... If anyone has any other evidence of Wester Front British Dodge use I would be VERY grateful to hear more.. Cheers, Gareth
