  1. Welbike will definitely be there, the jeep should be if the oil leak doesnt worsen
  2. It was good to speak to you at W&P Enigma, hope to see you next year. That picture is a new one to me, i dont fancy trying that just yet!
  3. Hi Andy thanks for the advice, i did buy my wheels, forks, seat and some other parts off of them and i was aware that they made repro domes, unfortunately they are around £80 so i would rather wait for an original or similar one to turn up at a car boot or autojumble.
  4. i almost bought that storemans manual but when i went back clive had bought it! got a 60patt jacket and trousers for £20 in very good condition 2 kd shirts and kd shorts late pattern denison £20 ww2 colarless shirt £10 Jerkin Camouflaged very good condition £30 Couple of reliced shell cases Box full of blanco blocks £25 2 ww2 dated 303 bandoleers £2 each some books 2 hessian cammo nets stretcher tressles £5 each and some other bits and pieces that i cannot remember
  5. We would also like to know if the EAFVG area is ok We intend to come down on saturday with our 3.5ton LDV Maxus van towing the jeep on a trailer. Would this be too risky to do this? We wanted to have the Van on site as we can securely keep our kit etc in there and importantly i want to keep the welbike safe so it is not stolen, as you can imagine it is very easy to nick. We have cammo nets etc to cover it up with though. It would be nice to know if the van would make it over to the field, we can take the jeep off to make it lighter but it is not the greatest off roader.
  6. A friend wondered if i knew what this was. Looks like a postwar swiss or german bergan but is arrow marked and by remploy. It also has a metal frame. Any ideas? Appologies for the poor quality
  7. We still plan to get there this saturday, hope i dont lose the welbike in the mud!
  8. Will do that, i will be there from the saturday the week before onwards with the bike so i will look forward to meeting you
  9. I dont think there would be enough room for both the welbike and the can. With full tanks the welbikes were aparently able to do 90 miles so im sure it would not be necessary for an extra can. The welbikes were also disposable so i am not sure if they would bother sending spare fuel in a suply drop unless it was for another use
  10. Thanks for the tips! Sounds like you have quite a collection It will have to be a winter job to re-do the numbers but i do want to get them as accurate as i can. Someone told me that some welbikes never had the caution transfers, is there any truth in this at all? I am not sure if it is true but they may well be right. They also said the same about the excelsior logo on the handlebar stem. Thanks Just to add The seat cover is now attached and another fuel leak cured, ready for War and Peace!
  11. Just had a sudden craving to watch this film again. Its one of those films i find that i can just keep watching and completely enjoy Am i the only person who shares a love for this film? I find it amazing how it was made in 1943 and managed to be such a great piece of film, although Churchill protested against the making of it. Love the begining with the dispatch riders separating to their diferent paths.
  12. Jacket and trousers on ebay http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/FALKLANDS-ERA-ROYAL-MARINES-PARAS-REVERSIBLE-GREEN-WHITE-TROUSERS-WATERPROOFS-/221056426874?pt=UK_Collectables_Militaria_LE&hash=item3377fd637a http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Falklands-era-Royal-Marines-Paras-reversible-green-white-smock-combat-/221056416247?pt=UK_Collectables_Militaria_LE&hash=item3377fd39f7
  13. Just found this, i got it at a carboot several years ago, havnt seen another sinse. Houses jacket and trousers dated 1985
  14. One on Ebay http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/hercules-M274-mule-military-vehicle-like-willys-jeep-/280907638444?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item41676666ac
  15. Appeared in the VMARS newsletter with a picture of the bike at Bunker Bash and yesterdays Colchester Gazette had a picture of me with the bike at Manningtree Car Show. (not the best of pictures) Spent this morning fitting the new handlebar grips, dificult task but they look good.
  16. Tank transfers now on, not 100% happy with them, they look very computer generated when the orginals were very rough as if writen, they seem a bit perfect. But they are on and look pretty good. Also touched up paint that was chipped at previous shows. I have found that the spark plug i got with the welbike when i bought it works better than the new one i bought for it last year so i am using that. I am getting a lot of problems with the spark, it often fails to start. I think it may be that the mixture is too oily but it runs and i dont want to spoil it in the middle of show season especially so near to war and peace. I have ordered new handlebar grips which i hope will arive soon, after that just need to fit seat cover. Over the transfers i was going to use some clear varnish so they dont wash away in the rain or when washing. Is that the best option or is there something better? I also stripped the fuel tap, still remains of chrome but the fuel was eating the paint away, when the engine fails to start (spark problems) fuel comes out of the carb from the air filter and lands directly on the fuel tap. Also really want to get a brass air filter as the originals as the fuel strips the paint off that also. Any ideas where to get one?
  17. Done the stenciling this morning and im pretty pleased with it. I am not certain what the original number would have been but using a bit of maths and guesswork this is an approximate number.
  18. I have seen those models online, it would be interesting to see how accurate they are but all funds are going to the bike at the moment:-D
  19. Had a closer look and this one is dated 1957, so it is a very late one!
  20. And some more: I believe the planes are for sale, something like £10,000 each Fuel Store I believe this was used for jet engine testing These canons are stored here by the National Heritage or some historic organisation, not sure why they are here though
  21. The airfield is actually mostly still there and untouched. I highly recommend the tours, especially the private tour you get as a member. Membership is only cheap i think and you get a lot in return! Here is some photos from the "private" tour The Artwork in this building was done by pilots etc and is still preserved. Not sure if the building was being demolished though
  22. I have several hundred so i will pick the best ones out tomorrow There were a few vehicles lying around there aswel. I believe a lot of the MVs that were on display are owned by a collector who stores them in one of the hangers
  23. I know its been a while but i just found another
  24. Yeah im not good at describing, heres a pic.
  25. Just a question, when were the metal boxes used for rations, that have the leater strap around it. I will take a picture if you dont know what i mean but i cant think when they would be used
