  9. Hi all Merry Christmas. Are there only two types of carb fitted to the 270 CCKW engines, iron and ally, what was the reason for changing to the ally ones during repairs ? Which is the better one of the two.....
  10. No particular vehicle in mind, just a rough guide, with reference to the difference between the diff ratio and hub ratio and what they would be, for say a modern road going 8 wheel tipper , only an example. Also what would the rough weight of one of these types of axle be ?
  11. If you look at where the 3 bolts for the plate should be, I reckon it was moved so you could get access to the jerry cans on the frame behind the rear wheels.. !!!!!
  12. Thanks for the post of the exploded view just right but how about diff ratios and some pics of them and the half shafts please.
  13. Well not today but yesterday, Mon 21st Staines train station at about 11.00am Huge green steam train panelled sides to boiler and slopey front passed through, well cool, was well chuffed ( pardon the pun ) to bits to see it go through, but did not catch the name..
  14. Right, so as I thought about the layout but would like some pics or tech pic and if possible some general specs of diff ratios and hub ratios.

  17. Ok fare enough. Hope the new job takes off and you get some time to play with your toys.
  18. How about as above but use self tapping screws and locktite with a gasket will keep the oil in and the muck out for the time being. Why not use some of those Luminweld rods which have been discussed on here before, sounds a good time to give them a try to see what they are like..
  19. Hi and a merry Christmas to you all. I have seen quite a few trucks about that have planetary gear reduction hubs on their rear axles. Does anyone out there know what the ratios of the diff and the hubs would be, and are there any pics about of how they work and transmit the drive from the prop shaft to the wheels.
  20. For info, most battery sizes have a mirror image ie same size battery but + and - poles in opposite positions. Can also be on same side on the top or diagonal and a combination of + and - in different places.
  21. Howard what's going on with your GMC have you sold it and if so what's going on with the W/shop body tell us more ??
  22. I would be quite happy with a water tank, a fuel tank would also be good :-D
  23. Depends if the battery plates are just sulphated up, does not help if the material has been driven off the plates and is sitting in the bottom of the cell shorting out the plates with each other.
