  1. I presume these are the two eye bolts just inside the bumperettes either side of the tow hook, and designed as breakaway chain points ? do you mean 2 tons each ? I nteresting thread this, also I have read somewhere that if the towed thing becomes detached the chains or strops must not let any part of the drawbar contact the ground ! so keep the chains only just long enough.
  2. Whats the name for !!! Keeps us busy with what !!
  3. Of course she is you know what a good girl she is. :cool2:
  4. I have read the posts about the Hiab at the rear of the truck and how it is fixed to the chassis rails, despite there being 16 16mm dia bolts, looking at how close they all are to each other and the potential lifting ability of the crane the forces on those bolts I would think that if it did not shear the bolts off it would rip the end part of the chassis to pieces, unless there is more to the installation than in the pics. I you look at commercial Hiabs they have large plates running down the sides of the vehicle chassis which the Hiab frame bolts fix to, these are then welded to large pieces of box section or c section which runs the whole length of the chassis rails on top of the vehicle chassis, this is designed to spread the forces down the vehicles chassis, also the use of the stabilizer legs helps to prevent over loading the chassis when lifting. If you are going to use it in a serious way I would suggest you get it inspected and certified that way you know what you can lift and there is no danger of it all falling off and causing damage. Only my thoughts and I don't really know what I am on about.
  5. Great rebuild, is this an old restoration as I have seen this, or one very similar with a Hiab on the back at an Isle of Wight show a couple of years ago could you confirm this ?
  6. How rude............. GMC don't leak oil......

  9. Thanks Jack, biggest body sort out I have done yet on my truck but should be good for another 60 years once finished :wow: Need to sort out the bonnet hinges, some clever sole has welded the hinges to the cab cowl
  10. Thanks Howard, sure you must have been here with yours ! Only I have chosen the hard route to dismantle the cab insitu. I am getting there with it soon will have lots of paint and will be sorted.
  11. This is the back edge of the side with lower part of the inner brace cut out. Here is the front edge of the lower part of the inner bracing cut out to remove all the rusty bits, so easy with the plasma cutter. This is the out side of the panel with the old lower part cut off. This is the out side bottom part of the main panel cut back to remove all the rusty bits. Here you can see the front corner which is where the three panels meet up. This is the front lower corner again showing the different parts and areas of corrosion. The separate green bit fits on the end of the rusty corner bit just to the left of it. Outer skin remover further up to enable rust removal. Old and new, this is the replacement part for the bottom of the main front corner piece which runs vertically from top to bottom of the front edge of the side panels, this is a thicker piece to the main panel skin. Close up of new bit New panel bent up and almost ready to fit but need to carry out some slight cutting but looking good. Above two pics of the new panel I have made to replace the rotten bottom edge of the side panel, still needs a little adjusting and then welding in and spraying up. But whether it will fit ....who knows....
  12. Hi all, had a good weekend, got lots of bits sorted out, finished off the bottom edge of the cab rear panel just needs paint. Here is our eldest boy, helping sand the rear panel. Wow knew these child things were going to be good for something. The pictures below are of the Nearside cab side panel, this is typical of what happens to the panels on open cabs due to the rain ect getting in the cab. Where the row of bolt holes are in the pic, where all the rust is, this is the point at which the cab floor bolts to the sides, one problem though, the floor edge is bent downwards to fix to the sides, what happens then is the rain / dirt ect can work its way down between the two panels and then corrodes causing this. In these pics you can see the three main parts which make up the side panels. First one is the two ribs running horizontally across the panel just under the step through, this is for bracing, both ribs are one piece stamped out to fit. Second piece is harder to see but running vertically on the right hand side of pic is an angle piece runs whole length top to bottom of the panel this provides good support to bolt the dash and main bonnet cowl to. Third panel is the main pane skin which is spot welded in many places to give rigidity to the whole piece. Here you can see the damage to the rear part of the side Here you can see the damage to the front part of the side, you can see the three pieces which make up the panel here. Here are closer pics of the side which bolts to the edge of the floor.
  13. I presume you would know here in the UK if any of the Russian vehicles here were contaminated as there would not have been any snow on them during the past few weeks, quite a handy side effect :wow: NOT...

  19. No no no, I dont want rivets.... I am enquiring about reflectors.... So I am a reflector counter.....:help:
  20. I know, been reading the CCKW forum, and I have checked mine they are Guide A-2 and amber but I don't know what style the lens is ? and if it is correct, where the red ones should go. I would like to get it as right as I can but who knows what is right ....... so many suggestions out there...
  21. Ooopppsss sorry, bit too vague then, right GMC CCKW352 truck original fitments. Something like type of reflector frame fitted (what was the maker), type of reflector lens Stimsonite? but what type ? what colours of lens and where on truck. Put that in your pipe and smoke it :cool2:
  22. Are there any experts out there who want to discuss vehicle reflectors and what colour and type should be fitted to what.
