  1. There is method in the codes, the P stands for projectiles, C for cartridge, B for bombs etc. BOCN is your friend! http://www.bocn.co.uk/vbforum/threads/27615-Consolidated-List-Of-Containers
  2. The box looks like a compo rations crate, a useful wooden box.
  3. It looks like the Brazilian national marking to me. They flew P-47s in Italy during the war using all US supplied equipment.
  4. True Jack, it's a tough one. Tankies does sound like hankies.......
  5. Psst, Jack, it's 'tankies'....... tankers sounds too much like w*****s......
  6. They are 20 pr blocks. I could do with one of those!
  7. Surprisingly, no! I'm sure I can get some though, standby....
  8. Thanks Ivor, that's good to know. Presumably issued from local US stocks rather than ordered. I suspect they wished they hadn't converted all of those M14s into other things!
  9. These projects always have a steep learning curve!
  10. I think it was only the T number that was painted on in the factory, it being the vehicle i.d. The 'not to be stowed on deck' was more likely for longer sea crossings such as atlantic sailings for US and Canadian built vehicles, much of the assault wave on D Day being in LCTs where there was no other choice! The antifreeze instructions were originally a blue circle near the rad cap or a blue ring around the filler but this was later changed to red. The 'this vehicle is filled with antifreeze 1/3 2/3 and must not be drained' seems peculiar to afvs and was very common, my Sherman had it on both sides. All of the later stencilling was in white, earlier Sherman WD numbers were in blue like early US numbers and sometimes in black.
  11. Rick, it's only the fishtails in your list that are post war, the rope stowage is correct for an F type hull and the tow hook is also correct, there being two types, the 17 pdr hook on a spring and the rotatrailer hook on the plate.
  12. David, is this the light you need? I'ts not the fag end type but is the standard Lucas T1A tail lamp. NOS but just been sitting around for a few years!
  13. You got it back......eventually!
  14. Me too, I've said much the same many times, here included, and have been critiscised for it. Perhaps I didn't voice it as eloquently!
  15. I reckon it's all those Aussies trying to keep you off.......:-D Only kidding, I have no problems and tend to check it most days.
  16. MT stands for mechanical transport, not motor transport so I'm sure Clive is correct.
  17. Indeed, as they all are. This one was recovered from Sennybridge in 1987.
  18. 'Factory' is as it left the factory so no wear and tear, no in service mods or add ons, paintwork and tyres etc in new condition and all original or at least original pattern parts. 'Motor pool' is as it may have appeared in service which allows a lot of leeway in condition and modifications. It also allows for normal wear and tear. Both haave merit in my opinion.
  19. The V1 was a pulse jet, not a rocket. The V2 was a rocket and somewhat faster!
  20. Yes, the command tank was used by Brigade commanders, not sure whether sqdn commanders had one. They had an extra 19 set in the front rh sponson, replacing a 75mm ammo rack, with an extra A set aerial in the glacis mount. The OP was used by the divisional Artillery and had a dummy gun with a 19 set, a 19 HP set and probably other sets for RA nets. The Rear link had a 19 set HP for longer range comms with Brigade and or Div HQ. This is all from memory so I stand by to be corrected!
  21. An oil gun is similar to a grease gun but uses a different nipple. There are two types I have come across, a spherical gun end that mates with a concave nipple and the opposite which mates with a convex nipple, similar to a grease nipple but it is not retained by the gun end, the injection pressure being less than a grease gun. The oil gun is operated merely by the user pushing it toward the nipple.
  22. So he certainly didn't feel he was being honoured then......
