  1. Alastair makes a good point, last time there was an intention to use the farm tracks to the south west of the camp. This did not happen but perhaps we could firm this up for next year. It was about a 3 mile course and personally, I feel it would be more fun than going on the road...... I did have a play in the area to the north but I was the only one. If we did have the use of the tracks, then at least we could all do some proper tanking.
  2. There is a specified minimum area of ground contact and ground pressure in the regs for tracklaying vehicles.
  3. Yes they were, though I don't think we had any M16s.
  4. Sam, I do, 15 miles north of Ipswich but it's probably a bit bigger than you need and the rates make it an expensive Scammell shed!
  5. 12 1/2 tons according to the Technical Handbook for the Mk3.
  6. Oh, yes..... I'm planning on kidnapping Rick on friday to prevent further progress and give me a chance to catch up! Should only be about five years or so........
  7. Rick, I was referring to the rebate machined into the top of the roof plates for the Charioteer ring to sit on, it encompases the area with the bolt holes. On mine, it's about a 1/16" deep and would be very noticeable if left.
  8. Is there any intention to disguise the machined rebate in the Charioteer roofplates?
  9. Oh to be a fly on the wall at that meeting.... I don't envy you your decision. I think the last A&E demonstrates that carriers are fine and frankly a Stuart on steel is not really an issue but I can imagine the powers that be wanting some sort of indemnity which is not something I would give!
  10. You didn't specify rubber tracks though........
  11. I got it from here. http://hmvf.co.uk/forumvb/showthread.php?20320-A-amp-e-2012...!&highlight=steel+tracks+a%26amp%3Be Specifically ''But one thing for sure all armour would have to be on rubbers.''
  12. I thought it had been decided some time ago that no steel tracks would be allowed at A&E?
  13. With that hair it's more like Rosemary Clooney.......
  14. Quite. I got fed up after 1 1/2 minutes..... I suspect Jacques was inwardly cringing too!
  15. Not really a shop as it was a farm scrap pile but I picked up an unused British para container for £20!
  16. ISTR that the tyre has to have a certain element in it's rubber compound to have that effect and that the majority of tyres do not, hence the lack of first hand experience of exploding tyres amongst those of us that have used heat at some point in the past.... However, as it is presumably not possible to establish the tyres make up visually, it's best to play safe!
  17. British registrations were allocated in batches at the point of the order being placed. With US built lend lease vehicles, they were issued to the vehicle upon receipt so you cannot really date them in the same way as a US number. I have seen pictures of later Shermans than mine but with a lower T number. They were probably lined up in a vehicle park and numbered as they sat!
  18. That will teach me to check before posting.......!
  19. The 'converted from' number would have been M1500669, it's wartime British army number. How did you arrive at a 555 series number?
  20. Yours looks like it's out of a Centurion. The correct ones do turn up, my needs are sorted so I'll keep my eyes open for one. The wiper motors are basically a very standard type also used on land rovers. The scout car type differs in its mounting but that is not insurmountable.
  21. It's the same speedo as a Cromwell........
