  1. Quite a few were converted to engines for the Rural Fire Service. It's the hull that is rare, needs saving and restoring!
  2. They were also intended to replace the M6 type, a lot cheaper to make!
  3. Really? Never heard that rumour.
  4. Yes, Sherman. Possibly new as the pinion did not come with the gearbox, it being matched to the diff crownwheel.
  5. I'd have a couple of the 9.00-16 if available Shaun.
  6. There are several variations and are quite common over here. On ebay they are always a tank sight and worth a fortune.....
  7. It's a sighting telescope from a Director for anti aircraft fire. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Director_(military)#mediaviewer/File:M7_director.jpg British machines were known as Predictors.
  8. The SOF tank suits are not Pixie Suits, they are the denim tank suit and very good they are too.
  9. Portrayal did/do them, try Jeep books. http://www.jeepworld.co.uk/ecom/T16_Universal_carrier_technical_manual_TM9-746_.asp
  10. I should try driving one before you commit..............
  11. Brilliant, thank you! You never stop learning do you.....:-D
  12. I was watching a video in the two Lancasters thread and when I closed it, HMVF had shrunk and much of the text is too fuzzy to read. All other sites are fine.... Any clues?
  13. Allegedly Big jEEP but who knows if that is true. It wasn't so long ago that the accepted wisdom was that Jeep came from General Purpose....
  14. If only they came with a manual.........
  15. So they are identical apart from several areas where they are different............
  16. Practicality and desirability seldom go together. Look at the popularity of tanks!
  17. Indeed, that is true. I was being a little flippant. The T16 parts list has a listing of interchangeable parts, I wonder if the bogie assembly would fit British or Canadian universals?
  18. By apprehended, you mean shot! I understand 3mm mild steel is the thickest allowed.
  19. T16 was a universal carrier. The correct nomenclature is Carrier, Universal, T16.
  20. The document case was a wartime fitting too. Cromwell and British Shermans have them.
  21. It looks like a 6 pdr sight mount with the telescope adaptor. Is it for sale?
  22. The pull through is probably 6 pdr. Do you want to sell it? It would look good with my gun! The voltmeter is for wireless equipment.
  23. There was something on BOCN about it, can't seem to find it with a quick shufti.
  24. The firing order is probably 1-5-3-6-2-4 but if you remove the plugs you can check with a finger over each plughole in turn. Rotate the engine in the correct direction with plugs out and distributor cap off until you feel some compression against your finger on no1. Continue rotating and you should get a similar effect in the next cylinder as appropriate in 1/3rd of a turn, I would expect it to be no 5, then 3 etc. Having noted the direction of rotation of the distributor, continue until you are back to no 1 and stop at top dead centre, or as near as you can. The rotor arm will be pointing at where no 1 lead needs to be in the cap. You may need to slip the cap back on to check which lead position that is. Using the noted direction of rotation, replace all leads in the correct sequence. This is a rough means and not to replace the correct method using the timing marks but will get you near enough to allow adjustment to run correctly.
