  1. Sadly I'm having to agree with all the above . I've not been on here since the beginning but it was in the fairly early days that I joined . I know we've been through all this before but I'm really struggling with this new site and , quite frankly , I'm not sure I possess the patience these days to carry on visiting and posting .
  2. Do we no longer have photographs on our profile pages or have I just missed the appropriate section in there ? Well done for sorting all this out Joris , maybe Jack will let you go and have a nice lay down in a quiet , darkened room when it's all finished !
  3. They look very similar to those fitted to my 1936 civvi 10cwt Morris truck . ( Maybe I should say will be fitted when I get time to finish it ! )
  4. In the lines at Beaulieu autojumble one of the traders operating from a Bedford QL in desert colours . Also on the M25 passed a medium sized four wheeled armoured personnel vehicle on a white artic but was unable to identify as it was mostly wrapped in white plastic .
  5. Hoping to get to Beaulieu for some bits for one of my projects , I'll look out for it .
  6. I could be wrong - frequently am ! But I'm pretty sure that Howard wade had one of these bodies in his yard some time ago . He may have some photographs , could be worth messaging him to see if he can help with info . Think there was one in the yard at Tey Restorations last time I visited , might be worth having a word with them too .
  7. Sorry , as usual I spent my time carrying the camera around and not taking pictures . The show was absolutely brilliant . Fantastic site and layout and everybody seemed to have had a great weekend . Not as many stalls etc as previously but In suspect a few people have been waiting to see how this one went before committing . That said there were many familiar faces , vehicles and displays . Good to see everybody .
  8. Missed this comment as I've not been keeping up with this thread . The DUKW was extricated at the same time as the Conquerors were pulled out in the early to mid eighties - think my pictures are on this thread somewhere earlier . By the time it was out onto the road the DUKW was pretty much in flat pack form it was so rotten . I remember there was also a bren carrier which was completely flat and a series one Vauxhall Victor in the same state .
  9. Thanks for the replies thus far . It's taken me around 18months to get down to find the grave so it may be a week or two before I can get myself organised to check it again ! I wondered if perhaps it stood for Essex Territorial Yeomanry but was unsure if such an animal existed at that time .
  10. Once again I'm hoping the accumulated brain power of the members can help me out . For a while now I've been wittering on to my brother that there is a member of our family whose name does not appear on the villages roll of those who fell in the two world wars but he has no recollection of the relative at all . I remember , many years ago , going with father to the churchyard at Langenhoe and there being a war grave there bearing the name of one of ours . This morning I finally did what I've been saying I would do and diverted our dog walk to the churchyard . As you would expect , it is nothing like I recall form that time as a very small boy but , after battling round the brambles for a bit I found what I was looking for . But my memory had failed me on two counts - it wasn't a war grave at all but a small stone with a cross on top and the relative - Henry May died in 1910 . The inscription on his stone reads . Tpr Henry May E T Y . Died 17th December 1910 aged 17 years . I have no reason to believe he died in action but I would be interested to find out a bit more about him . Can anyone tell me what ETY stands for and are there any suggestions as to where I might find out where he was in 1910 ? Many thanks for any thoughts you might have to offer .
  11. This proposed legislation will apply to brand new vehicles not to those already on the road and , tempting though it is , I'm not going to go into one of my rants on just how polluting vehicles are - what sort of batteries are in electric vehicles ? Lead maybe ? Where does the electricity come from to charge them ? How much pollution is created building the new vehicles ? Sorry.Off topic again !
  12. As we were coming out of Ipswich tonight , a low loader with a Humber Pig on board came off the A14 and went onto the A 12 . Wondered if they were heading for Beltring ? The Pig was 23BK72
  13. Hope you didn't think I was being discourteous Robin , sorry you've not sold yours yet , it looks like a nice truck . Mike , I forgot to say - if you are going to War & Peace , go and have a chat with The Warhorses Dutch group - their guys usually have two or three YA's at the show & will be happy to show you round them . Several of theirs have been converted to LPG which they say is a worthwhile investment .
  14. My brother had a YA some years back which I got to drive a couple of times . It was a very nice little truck - somewhat reminiscent of a Dodge to drive and with the Hercules engine sounded a bit like one too ! Spares could very occasionally be a pain but I think he normally managed to get most things he needed from Wildenberg . The rubbers in the suspension took a while to turn up and were not cheap but you don't need to renew them too often . The transmission is interesting with the four driveshafts but it all works well and the whole thing was a very interesting and much underrated truck , plenty of room in the back for all the gear you need at a show . The hard bodied radio version would be really nice if you came across one but I certainly wouldn't dismiss a canvas bodied one . Just make sure , whichever one you go for , that it's got all it's bits with it - there's been one for sale recently which appeared to be short of a wheel and you really do need that centre third wheel . Big bruv only sold his because he also had a SUMB and one or other had to go otherwise it would probably still be around here .
  15. I've not had the particular paint you are looking for but I have used Warpaint in the past . I found them to be very helpful and friendly . They mixed me a batch of paint to match a sample of the old paint on my vehicle which I sent them and turned out a perfect match . It would be worth a phone call to discuss your needs and I would imagine they will be able to help you out .
  16. That must be a real rarity over there - they're pretty thin on the ground here ! That's one of the diesel Dutch airportables isn't it ?
  17. That could well be one of the famous Boulton & Paul corrugated iron clad chapels . We still have one here at Old Heath on the outskirts of Colchester . Not many left now .
  18. Tony - don't know if it's of any interest to you but the new edition of Classic Motor Monthly arrived today . There is an advert for a Coventry Climax FWM engine , ex water pump . If you think it's worth a look let me know & I'll PM you the details .
  19. If it's any help I could keep it at my place for a short time Mike .
  20. Have a look at Kempers website . I'm told it's been updated recently and they have quite a few repair panels amongst other bits now .
  21. Somebody was asking me the other day if the Terberg was still for sale on Milweb . I think it was possibly one of the Dutch dealers that was advertising it but I can't remember who it was and I can't find the advert now - presumably it's sold , can anybody remember who had it ?
  22. Thank you very much both , will pass the info on to my brother who is trying to do the research .
  23. Attached - hopefully - to this , is a photograph of one of mum's brothers , Ronald Whitfield . We've been tentatively trying to research Rons military service for a little while now but not having his service number has been a bit of a stumbling block . We do know that he was with the Royal Signals and legend has it that he might somehow have been involved with the development of RADAR . Having just made a start on clearing mums house now she is no longer with us , a couple of pictures have turned up which we have not seen before . Unfortunately uniforms and insignia aren't my area of expertise so I'm hoping the combined brains of the HMVF can tell me what all of his patches mean .
  24. Yesterday morning met an Oshkosh tractor and artic low load trailer transporting a Pinzgauer presumably up to DSV (or whatever they're called this week ) . Met the empty truck on it's way back out on my return journey .
