  1. So very sorry to hear this Neil. Our condoleances to you and your family Neil. Such a sad loss. Like Mark I too lost my Dad 4 years ago at this time and miss him vey much and I still wonder if there was anything I could have done differntly. Our thoughts are with you at this difficult time. Sue & Jerry
  2. Sorry for the delay in the reply - looks like you've sussed it. We tried :- Diesel - Smokey and black cack over everything, reasonable heat. Parafin - OK bit smelly and not much heat. Petrol - good heat but you need nerves of steel. Mix of parafin and petrol - 50/50 mix. - That will be the one then. Produces good heat, a clean flu as not smokey and not so volatile as neat petrol. Much safer to the point that even I will have a go at lighting it with this fuel. Always use the flue pipes as this makes it work and draw. Some lads at Buckfast had a water heater of similar design. They only had one short section of flu pipe and the thing just would not work right - HF got them to add another section of pipe, adjusted the fuel feed to a slow drip and presto. Rosemary don't be put off by some of the comments about safety. If you use common sense there should be no problem. A small submersable pump powered by a 12v battery or similar willpump the water straight from the bin to your shower, or you can do as we do and use a hozelock 5 litre pump up garden spray - no power needed and you can mix the water to the chosen temp. Ahhh loverly :-D
  3. Welcome you have a personal message !!!!!!!!!! :-D ;-) HF
  4. For the full story see - Other Chatter: Topic: Pink Cushion - is this the end?
  5. TIME:- 8.30 am PLACE:- Main Arena War & Peace :schocked: WOW, what a turn out. We all made our way as directed to the area chosen for the photo shoot. There at the front was HMVF members own tribute to their Absent Leader JACK and his beloved PINK CUSHION. :-) Just to one side lurked a darkly clad, rather shambling figure. I did not take much notice at first as we had attracted attention of members of the public who gathered round to see what was happening. Then as the figure shuffled forward I saw he had a dirty old sack which he tipped out and mumbled “You can have the thing. Its more trouble than its worth” and without any other explenation he scurried off. It was then we realized it was the one and only - Jack’s cherished Pink Cushion!! OH JOY - the Pink One is Safe.  The cushion took its place with us all for the photo shoot - Mr Hardyferret looked protectivly over the rather sagy pink one while we all readied ourselves for the photos. Photos Taken and we were all instructed to leave the arena - of course no one did as we all had far to much to talk about. But in time we did as we were told and the vehicles started to leave the arena …….......but the cushion seemed to loose it............. was it blinded by the sudden light........... or disorentated after being tipped out of the sack, or just plain scared cus JACK WAS NOT THERE? it took off crying out " Jack………Jack......JACK".................... straight into the path of the convoy of HMVF vehicles. :shake: OH MY GOD, SOMEONE DO SOMETHING. :shake:
  6. Do you mean this - When I can get my emotions under control I will post the whole rather sad story for all to see.
  7. If it was a beautifully sunny day it would not be so bad Io be woken so early but on a rainy day like this - not so good. Because of the rain the long trot down to the workshop to look at our water heater is not so inticing so if its all the same to you I will wait and see if the rain eases off and then go down. The 2 most important instructions are- 1. Let someone else light it 2. STAND WELL BACK sounds more scary than it is but I always let himself do the lighting :naughty: - dripping petrol, naked flames :shake: Having managed petrol stations for many years the combination of these two does make me a little jumpy. I think they are a wonderfull thing - heating water when camping is such a pain - and one of these makes it easy. Granted the waters not good enough to cook in or make tea with but for washing body's and greasy dishes its fantastic. With the addition of a small submersable pump and a length of hose pipe you can have running hot water shower - how good is that
  8. Thaks Tim I had a feeling it was on a hill and that if the floods got that far only Noah would be in attendance. So now we can carry on regardless. :thankyou:
  9. Worry not my soggy/steaming/slowly drying friend  We have the exact same model. and when we bought ours we also had a fellow exhibitor of the same nationality as the heater :-D Just let me have my breckie and 2nd cup of tea and full op instructions will follow :cofee: - and himself will be able to put in his words of wisdom too. Grand purchase sir - I persuaded HF to buy one of these fine contraptions three years ago and I think we should enter it at shows as an exhibit in its own right because of the attention it gets. Any way will get back to you in a mo :-D
  10. Have just given this some more thought - This is britain .........by next weekend we will probably have the highest recorded tempretures and hours of sunshine since records begane and the water companies telling us to conserve drinking water!!!!
  11. Good Point - will speak to Jack. and investigate :dunno:
  12. :-D Fine vehicle young man - where and when ?
  13. Stunning display of nifty foot work General. Only need Corporal Punishment to join up and we have the set :-D Note to self - must discuss with Jack arranging a private dance lesson for himself and the Dancing Girls
  14. Thanks be that where we live is very unlikely to flood - but I have been thinking the same thing. my hart goes out to everyone affected - i cannot imagine how dreadfull it must be. I also wonder what happens to all the animals in back yard cages - up to farm animals an horses - dreadfull. I hope everyone at Beltring is OK - when we were there after the sharp storm on Thursday morning the brook between the living history field and support car parking went from being a 4' deep X 6' wide ditch with a muddy bottom to being about 4-6 inches off flooding over.
  15. BOYS Please don't let Jessie do any of the painting :shake:
  16. :goodidea: Guys What a good idea :deal: While you are at it, could you give the net curtains in the club house a wash, and don't forget to hoover down the sides and back of the sofas - any money you find can go in the tea & coffee kitty, any mucky publications hidden under the cushions can go straight in the bin. Oh and don't forget when the curtains are down to clean the windows - and the paintwork on the windows and skirting boards could also do with a wash. May be it would be an idea to give the walls a lick of fresh emulsion -not that dreary NATO green stuff you used last time. :nono: Don't forget to put the dust sheets down. And while I think about it the light in the ladies powder room need a new bulb and the light shade could do with dusting Talking of light bulbs - I noticed one of the lights in the ships prow drinks cabinet is also on the blink............... actually the whole cabinet needs emptying out, wiping down and restocking - I think the cocktail cherries are near to being out of date - may be be a good move to get in some more of those coloured straws and cocktail umbrellas. You know the ones Joris likes to have in his glass of Cola. Talking of out of date items Jack you need to check the date on the Horlicks that you have in the kitchen and have you finished that last bottle of Sanatogin yet? Now what else was there ................... Oh yes, I think after you have done that it would be wise to pop down to the hire shop and get a carpet shampoo machine. You will need to move all the furniture out first and then give the carpets a really good clean - especially where Snapper spilt his hot Ribina the other evening. What would be really lovely is if you could then see your way to making some nice cakes - Dehlia's book is on the shelf in the kitchen. :rtfm: It would be rather nice to have some cakes and a nice pot of tea when we all come back. And don't forget to use the best china, not those scabby mess tins. Well boys have fun - I am sure you will. A little bit of healthy exercise is so much better than sitting and playing computer games - don't you think. :computerterror: Toodle Pip  PS Jack  if you do a good job I Will see what I can bring you back from Beltring. PPS. If I find out that while we are all away all you have done is pester the dancing girls :dancinggirls: there will be big trouble :n00b:
  17. I second that. As a person who did not get to be part of the event it has been wonderfull to see the photos and get a sense of the occasion. Thankyou :thankyou:
  18. Good pictures there Simon and the fact that it started up so well after such a long rest :schocked: BUT :shake: Oh noooooooooooo............. after the conversation Hardyferret had with Jack at Becket towers over the weekend I've got this funny feeling.......... Can we really get something that big in through the gates :dunno: But there again Jack it may mean I am one step closer to getting my motorbike
