  1. Shame its not more compact, I can see me spacing the HIAB up 4" at this rate! :wow: Will do further investigating/measuring..... Alec.
  2. I thought it would end up being a hellish arrangement like that..... :-X Found that the box is covered in "Vintage Bedford Trucks & Coaches Training Manual, Transmission, TS1085/1", bought a copy off ebay for illumination purposes! :-D Alec.
  3. Hi Folks, I have a late AWD/Bedford MJ with the Perkins Phaser and Turner 5-speed box. Looking to attach a PTO and hydraulic pump for a HIAB. Now then, Turner boxes look like they are lying on their sides, therefore the plates I would normally assume are for a PTO are on the top/bottom of the box. The bottom one has the drain plug for the box and installing a PTO there would interfere with the front prop. So, does anyone have a photo of the PTO/Pump arrangement on this style of box? Fitted on top it looks as if the pump may just sit flush with the top of the chassis rails. How about the type which goes into the transfer box? A-la fire engine pump, any photos? Bolt pattern looks similar to the pumps fitted to K,M&O Type gearboxes, maybe TKs as well. Anyone able to confirm or deny? :-D Any assistance gratefully received, especially photos :-D My manuals dont cover the Turner Box. Alec.
  4. Yes....... Rot, bashes, a Sierra diesel and IIRC Lithuanian Plates! If it was cheaper I would have had a punt... Alec.
  5. Any UAZ452/3741s on the go/for sale in the UK just now......? Alec.
  6. Some have a hydraulic pump but most, like ours have a piston pump. pulling that handle back and forth, waggling at full extension can be fun.... Alec.
  7. I have TS1016 / TS1017 / TS1018 and TS1277, but they're perfect bound so I don't see how they could be copied easily. - I've got these, thanks. You know there is more than one type of MJ? - I do indeed, I have the second-last AWD permutation (before they went TL Cab), a full technical archive is, however, mutually beneficial to owners/restorers of all variants. Have you asked VM about copyright? - VM? I am also in the middle of a FOI request for some missing documentation - response due in a couple of weeks now. Alec.
  8. Beanstalks are tremendous pieces of kit! A mate and I have one in our collection of miscellaneous equipment. Quite hairy up there at full extension....... Alec.
  9. Welcome in! Great lorries, straightforward to work on. Alec.
  10. Excellent! I was watching it and thought "where's the candle....?" Bingo! Alec.
  11. Thanks for the link, I got some info from them but I refuse to pay obscene prices for what is essentially a few pages. I'm happy to give a nominal fee however. I have got the vast majority free through the kindness of enthusiasts, paid for the rest. When I pass it on it shall also be free. Kind Regards, Alec
  12. Whoops, it appears my previous thread was in the Wanted section which meant it had a finite thread life  I have done really well so far with my searching (thanks to all who kindly helped), but I am still missing a few paper/electronic copies of the following publications: AESPs: 2320-H-100-303 Technical description Base Maintenance Service Training Manuals - Bedford M 4x4 TS1093 MJ-MF Instruction Book/Handbook TS1093/2 MJ-MF Instruction Book/Handbook AWD MP044 330 cu Engine W/S Manual Army Code: 22753 Bedford, MKP2BMO, Atlas 3 Tonne Crane, Illustrated Parts Catalogue. 22713 Bedford, Atlas Crane, Illustrated Parts Catalogue. 21496 CES. Truck, Cargo, 4-Ton, 4x4, Bedford, MJP2BMO. 31496 CES. Truck, Cargo, 4 Tonne, 4x4, W/Turbo Charged Engine, Bedford MJPBMO etc. 31498 CES. Truck, Flat Platform, 4T, 4x4, W/Turbo Charged Engine, Bedford MJP2BMO. If anyone could loan me one for copying/provide a pdf, it would be greatly appreciated (Clive's boorach excepted..... ) Regards, Alec. UPDATED REQUEST LIST AS OF 28/08/15
  13. Stolen while on display, taken from carpark, slightly contradictory but nonetheless a terrible shame. Alec
  14. I subscribe to the boiling burnt oil poured down the plugholes technique, worked for me a couple of times. Heat a pail of it over a primus stove and gently gently aiming the plughole! Do so at your own risk etc. Alec.
  15. I'm waiting for one on a Bedford MJ, I was given a month's response time. Nearly up now! Alec.
  16. I have some circuit diagrams etc as well, between Clive and myself we should be able to sort you out! Alec.
  17. What stage are you at? If its getting the pcbs out then knobs off with tiny hex grub screws and then retaining nuts off the volume/selector spindles and out the guts come! I don't have the data at hand just now, some of the circuit diagrams etc are still restricted info but it is a brutally simple system to fault-find! Easy hits to check are the handset connections (push-fit onto terminal posts), OP transistors on the main board, 741 op-amp on amp board and the Chokes on the screw terminal board (Board F if memory serves me). Whats it doing/not doing? Alec.
  18. Hi, Did you fully torque or just nip up the outside row of 4 head bolts? Its good practice these days to use composite gaskets and leave the outer row of bolts nipped up (or out altogether) as they can lead to early warping of the heads. Remember to use the best quality coolant/corrosion inhibitor you can get your paws on and change the oil every 3k miles, it'll last for years Alec
  19. I live out of my Marshall Ambulance at shows, but I have a CVRT Side-Tent attached as a lean-to. I don't use it for sleeping in (well, not currently but I have in the past), I use it as a place to stick the odd chair/extra bits n bobs/stuff I've bought and the emergency night-time bucket!! I use a fairly unobtrusive length of 1/2" wide awning rail along the side to slip it in, not that noticeable... If I'm out in the wilds somewhere I don't usually bother, I just fire everything underneath!! Alec.
  20. Nah, I've managed fine out of mine for 6 seasons! Alec.
  21. Due to the age of the trailer and towing vehicle, if used during daylight hours it does not require lighting, just rear reflectors to meet the c+u regs. I would say its worthwhile finding period tail-lights and towing socket long-term as the jeep has them fitted anyway. I researched this a few years ago as I use a reflector/numberplate combo on my Ferguson Trailer (1953) as the towing tractor (1950) is unlit. Alec.
  22. AVOID the repro Zeniths, rubbish. Easy job to rebuild your old one, get a quality kit from Burlen Fuel Services and you are laughing. Warped body usually easily lapped flat on a sheet of 240 grit paper. Watch out for wear on the throttle spindle bushes, they can tolerate a fair bit of wear but it can be difficult to get the idle air bypass correct, also the classic sneeze at part-throttle coasting just after you lift the pedal. Its a case of boring the casing and fitting bronze bushes, easy enough job but best to do on a drill-press or mill. Alec.
  23. Thanks Clive, that's a great start! Alec
  24. Hi Folks, Regarding the PTC-404 field telephones. I've used them as a pair, was wondering if it was possible to daisy chain/loop/star them? I dont have any literature on them, does anyone have references /EMERs for them (and 405s) ? Alec
