  1. Hi fesm_ndt, I think this list is an extraction from the list featured here. Thanks all the same. http://hmvf.co.uk/forumvb/showthread.php?16817-Saracen-Build-up/page18
  2. Steve, it must have been in South Africa at the time, my dad never was outside of South Africa and this was taken during his stint in the army. http://hmvf.co.uk/forumvb/showthread.php?16817-Saracen-Build-up/page28
  3. Hi guys, I am am idiot regarding tanks but I posted this pic in the Saracen build-up thread of my dad when he was in the army. The tanks seem similar?
  4. Finally doing a little work again, touching up the machine gun mounting and re-installing. When checking the parts catalogue, it does appear to be the mk 1, No. 4 version, although some some items shown on the catalogue are not here like the shoulder piece and some associated hardware. I still need to refit the handle(being oiled) and make up a periscope which must have been removed by the security company guys and who then welded up the opening. Anybody have pics of the machine gun fitment, please?
  5. Hi Robin, I started the Saracen gallery thread as well for pictures and photos. However, I am looking for more data to populate the Saracen register as only the tip of the iceberg has been uncovered to date.
  6. Saracendriver, you just made my day! Thanks for all the info, none of the registration numbers you provided were on the register, now that has been corrected! I still would like to add photos to the register and will drop you a mail, but I am certain there are more Saracen nuts (hi Oily! :cool2:) that would appreciate if you would post some pics here as well.
  7. Hi guys, I am searching for pics of Saracens, any shape or condition. Please assist by posting it or just links will do as well.
  8. I only saw that you are a Saracen owner by coincidence! The number of your Saracen is already listed in the Saracen Register and has now been updated with your name. Please post a pic of your Saracen as well.
  9. Thanks Andy, t'was worth a try. It seems that Richard can maybe help with one of them.
  10. Thanks Richard, care to add a name to it? I would like to include it in the register.
  11. Hi Andy, You have got these two pics on your gallery post, do you know who they belong to?
  12. Hi guys, I was alerted to another Saracen in town. Upon investigation, it was bought by an owner of a scrap metal yard as scrap. The asking price is around 3500 pounds if I do the conversion. It is a bit steep if one would purchase it as spares. It is yet another Saracen 88 with registration number 80BA30, Alv 358. The turret is still the older 3 door version. It is quite complete, even with turret hardware and bren gun ring, all seats and also the commander chair, which incedently is missing on mine. This one was not converted like mine with the bullet proof windows and still has the original lids and periscopes in place. The escape hatches on both sides are missing but that is not the end of the world. I begged the guy not to take the gas Act to it and I think I will make regular follow-ups. He said he wanted to get an auto electrician to get it started and when I said that I do have a little bit of knowledge and some manuals on it, I get the impression that he think I was fibbing. The conversation was over the cell phone, so I will have to pay him a visit when he is at the shop.
  13. It will be nice to get some feedback afterwards. Any others going? Take some pics, please.
  14. Hi lozzaboy, Here are some pics of some South African Army Landy's I found an a MV scrapyard some time ago. Mark is going to curse me as I had promised him more pics but hadn't gotten round to that. Eventhough here is a military base closeby, Landy's are not so common with our army anymore and you have to look for them.
  15. Hi guys, Slightly off topic but I visited my brother over the weekend and he showed me a few very interesting pics and posters. Some was taken of my dad when he was doing Army training in the early '50's, I think. Others were taken by my brother in the time of him doing Border duty and some war propaganda against Swapo at the time. I borrowed the pics, scanned them in promptly and can't resist posting some of them. My dad in the centre. Dad posing for a pic, he is no longer with us. Some tanks, no clue what they are/were. This Ratel was hit by a RPG7 rocket and as the writing on the back of the pic has it, 13 soldiers died in the Ratel in Angola. The Ratel was repainted and called "Silver dream" on account of the colour. The rocket hit the window and exploded on the inside. One of the propaganda posters that I have that was used to demoralise the enemy. On the back is a picture of a dead insurgent and a statement "Another SWAPO cadre is sacrificed for nothing" The other posters are also gruesome and I wonder whether it should be posted.
  16. Mark, here is a link with a 60mm mortar in action. http://www.militaryphotos.net/forums/showthread.php?64954-South-African-National-Defence-Force/page149
  17. Hi Mark, I am not nearly as specialised with all the specs as you guys. I have these links that you might enjoy as it is SA army related. http://www.militaryphotos.net/forums/showthread.php?64954-South-African-National-Defence-Force/page108 http://www.sa-soldier.com/ http://sadfgroup.org/e-ratel.html http://www.belikoff.com/contracts.htm#Combat It is all very secretive about most kit and the ones who know, don't say much.
  18. Thanks Andy, appreciated! Do you perhaps have the registration number?
  19. Paulob, I wish I could help you! It is frustrating to know the info should still be available but where! Oily, best of luck with your engine removal and all of that work for a seal on the flywheel! I agree with Paul, document the whole episode with photos for us poor souls that might end up having to go the same route eventually.
  20. Hi Matt, This document indeed has a lot of Saracens listed and it has been incorporated into the register. Thanks a lot for the help!:
  21. With all the numbers and pics I could get together, the register now totals out at 182. Not good, eh?
  22. Thank you very much for sharing! Interesting hobby to accompany the Saracen!
  23. Sorry, didn't know the difference, it was the info I had on her, learning as I go. Good thing we have you knowledgeable people on the forum!
  24. Interesting history on this sarry, good thing she now has an owner that wouldn't cause as much trouble or go looking for it!? Post some pics for the register please and add the registration number! Good luck with her!!
  25. Here are some pics of another universal carrier. http://hmvf.co.uk/forumvb/showthread.php?18874-Armoured-Vehicle-identification&p=207548#post207548
