  1. This is dredging back through a lot of years of history and the old grey cells could let me down but here goes anyway on the subject of the beast... and the 6 wheeler that followed. Was J Dodd the original builder or the guy who put a body on it? I seem to remember he was an auto gearbox specialist who finished the car off. I have wracked my brain for the name of the guy I visited the first time the 6 wheeler was to be driven. When put in gear one drive axle went one way and one went the other, result? it dug itself into the gravel drive.... EDIT!!!!!!!!! Paul Jamison!!!! that was the man!! Regards rog8811
  2. I like that a lot Original engine? I lived next to a haulier as a kid and used to wake up to the sound of these bedfords leaving the yard..... Regards rog8811
  3. I was cruising over middle England on google earth and I happened upon a cache of scammells and matadors plus a smattering of land rovers tractors and goodness knows what else. sr = Scammell wrecker M = matador st = Scammell tank trans?? sa = scammell artic 101 = land rover 101 I will not give any info on where I found them, what I will say is I would love to get an invite to wander around the collection. Regards rog8811
  4. I so want one of those forward control 4X4s, they look similar to our home brewed 101s, any idea of the liniage of them? regards rog8811
  5. Hmmm I wonder..... last week I was overflown by a british bi-plane with a rotary engine and a tri-plane that appeared to be sky blue and grey rather than red, this was at Godstone, not far from Redhill airdrome.
  6. Copy of a scale GA drawing any good to you? Have recovery and tank transporters drawn to scale but with basic dimensions only so the rest needs to be worked out.. Regards rog8811
  7. No matter how run down and decrepit they are, these scammells just look so good, keep the pictures coming please! Regards rog8811
  8. I tried to delete my post when I realised it was not the same thing
  9. Anything like this one? (that I so nearly bought some years ago). Regards rog8811
  10. rog8811 said AndyFowler said I have to say I agree, I have just found a photo of a 100 ton chassis under construction at Teeside Bridge and Engineering co, loads more rivets showing and shallower looking girders. Just goes to show you cannot believe everything you see in print.
  11. I have a photo of the very same DT and trailor combo, the title states ..."100 ton trailor (BLH21) Using a forecarriage" Regards rog8811
  12. I got this link from another forum I frequent, it takes you to popular mechanics where you can read every issue online. http://books.google.com/books?id=8N0DAAAAMBAJ&lr=&rview=1&source=gbs_all_issues_r&cad=3&atm_aiy=1900#all_issues_anchor I went to the following random 1940's mag where I found pictures of a recovery vehicle (WLF?) and a cletrac at around page 62 and an artical on the matilda tank at page 81.... loads more articals and pictures to while away your time! http://books.google.com/books?id=WNYDAAAAMBAJ&pg=PA81&lr=&rview=1&source=gbs_toc_r&cad=1#v=onepage&q&f=false Pygmy scout car anyone? http://books.google.com/books?id=5tkDAAAAMBAJ&pg=PA324&lr=&rview=1&source=gbs_toc_r&cad=1#v=onepage&q&f=false Enjoy Regards rog8811
  13. It is at least 3 years and may be more.... I never quite got round to the coat of 5 bar gate green Regards rog8811
  14. The best I can do is the following from google earth as I cannot find any others that have been taken. It just leaves a matt grey finish which polishes slightly with handling. If you are desperate I will try to make sure I have a camera with me when I unlock next time I am there. Regards rog8811
  15. For many years I used galvafroid as a cold galvanized undercoat, never had a problem with it, though they didn't do it in spray cans way back then:embarrassed:. More recently I hand painted it onto the metal gate at work, still looks tidy and rust free three years later without any top coat. http://www.dstgroup.co.uk/index/products/view_products/139/ Regards rog8811
  16. I like pictures, keep them coming! Regards rog8811
  17. The world cannot pretend the Nazis/SS never existed and hide everything from public view. Expressing an interest in the history is not like signing up to the ideology, I see no problem with a well run museum on the subject. Regards rog8811
  18. When I were a lad a threewheeler was classed the same as a motorcycle combination....It should have no reverse gear. Some Bonds used 2 stroke viliers engines with starter motors, with a bit of rewiring you could get 4 gears forward and 4 gears reverse... by starting the engine backwards... mine had a kickstart under the bonnet :-( Regards rog8811
  19. Many years ago when I was too young for a car and too cold on the AJS like most of my mates I three wheeled for a while, I met a real 3 wheel fanatic (mainly Bonds). He had some pictures of a three wheel jeep, we agreed it was a real "want one".... I wonder if any of them got this side of the pond? Regards rog8811
  20. Is it a Davis? Having hit google I will re-phrase that.... It is a Davis 494
  21. Found this and thought it may raise a smile :cool2: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q6vbhvnIWVk&feature=player_embedded Regards rog8811
  22. Scammell Explorer wrecker on the back of a yellow low loader heading anticlockwise round the M25 at J8. I only had a fleeting glance as I was going clockwise, appeared to be fully restored in olive drab, very nice. Regards rog8811
  23. Just a thought, do you know that your head gasket is good? I had a car that boiled over repeatedly due to a slight leak to a cylinder which pumped the cooling system up... Regards rog8811
  24. So the weekend draws to a close, how many of you managed to reach your stated goal? I for one did! I set the target of making a pair of front wings for my mini jeep project, here is how it went. Regards rog8811
  25. Due to jet lag (note time of posting :-) ) I spent the later part of today making a pair of front wings for a mini jeep.... when 23:00 hrs came along so did Mrs rog to suggest that the neighbours might not appreciate any further grinding. Tomorrow I hope to finish welding and get the parts trial mounted.... though Mrs rog did say at one point "what did you think you were going to do tomorrow"? That is never good. :-( Regards rog8811
