1. yep, a cunning plan is hatching . I 'think' the windscreen frame on the green one is the aluminium framed type which makes me wonder if it can be modified to fit mine. Mine is steel construction using tubing and the aluminium is made from extrusions, and therefore less rust. The aluminium one sits back a lot further, not sure why they did that. It is also interesting to see the insulation in place on the firewall as when I was in France earlier this year in an Acmat, it was as noisy as a Land Rover Lightweight inside when driving. I got sent piccies of the sand coloured cab this morning
2. Spares.....spares, always good to have some spare bits
3. & Welcome Very friendly forum in here so nobody complains about questions. We do need photos though
4. Well another promising lead on Acmat cab parts found by a member of the AVEM forum in a junkyard in France.... Now I have to see how hard it is to bring back :cool2: I spy in the background one with a hiab
5. I did a legs 1:1 transfer case in my lightweight and it was the best cash i spent on her. The only issue was had to reverse in low range. Yep the big ball joint on the A frame.. did one from under and dont relish doing it again. It may pay to confirm on the prportioning valves for brakes as although i have never done it on a landy you normally have to change it so the rear brakes come on after the front. Some cars have a valve you adjust and some the master cylinder is different. Anyway looking forward to the next installment
6. I think the cross drilling is the major mod. Been ages since i looked at 3.5na specs but it has to fo with getting oil to a bearing. I think i have the procedure on my pc at home but my guess if you ask on the landy fourm there should be a thread on it. Oops you cant ask on the landy fourm as everyone starts screaming use the search function...... generally a friendlier bunch in here 😊. A disco transfer box is useful also if you do a lot of highway work as taller ratios. You should change the rubber bit on the wishbone now you have it pulled apart as a pain to do from underneath. Do you have to change the brake master cylinder when you put the discs on the back (i cant recall if the proportioning valve is integral or separate) I just finished a rebuild on a 300tdi hcpu
7. You don't really need spring compressors on a Defender, you can generally stand on the end of the axle with the chassis on jack stands and they swing enough down to kick the spring out. I just mention it as compressors are a pain in the butt. There is a good youtube video of a chassis rebuild using a high lift jack
8. Cheers guys. Starting to get a plan together. I really don't want to miss the chance.
9. I was under the misconception W&P was closer to London...... But have to say getting a taxi in the UK anywhere is expensive :-D G'Day David, I haven't booked my flight tickets as yet as the head office is fine tuning their schedule but should know by early next week.
10. What accommodation is close by? I keep forgetting taxis in the UK are prohibitive as figuring on going on the 16th and then flying out of Heathrow on the 17th. So my main drama will be getting from wherever I stay to the airport.
11. Never could get to buy the wreck out of France. It appears many people advertise to sell things in France but then never can be bothered answering to anyone who wants to buy it. Managed to get from France: - 2 additional towing shackles as the ones I purchased earlier were incorrect - steering box seals - the correct firewall mounted fuel filter as it apparently has a hand pump in it and some other small stuff which cost 1900 euros From Germany - 6 new tyres for 1500 euros From UK - reversing camera - alarm - pioneer kit and new axe (which apparently causes a lot of amusement) - rear lap belts - new fuel pump I guess the last high priced item is a rear cab wall mounted aircon. Phase 2 disassembly and blasting is going to start imminently.
12. The Pinz manual will cover your basics. Later Pinz engines have different timing belts, turbos, I believe the piston oil cooling jets are Pinz specific, different cam. The manual pages I have cut in above is for P80/P90 so is mostly the same. There are 3 thicknesses of headgasket, but best option is to get later model as the newer ones are stronger. From memory it was fairly easy to rebuild with no real tricky bits. You need special tools for timing, timing belt tension and if you time on an engine stand. The only bit that scared me was undoing the head bolts with the drive socket as took a bit of oomph
13. I can send you any info you need the engines in a Pinzgauer are different but that's because I went through every detail. You need a very good quality drive socket. You are supposed to change all the head bolts, torque, torque again, run it and torque again..........pain
14. I saw this... good price but comes with a lot of the truck http://www.ebay.fr/itm/Roue-Pneu-Marmon-Simca-Unic-Boquet-Moteur-SUMB-Toutes-pieces-Moteur-V8-Ford-/160725321551?pt=FR_JG_Auto_Pieces_Pneus&hash=item256bf9c74f
15. Ok as it's getting close to being a month away, who and what are going? It appears that my work will have me in the UK at the right time :-D and I am rather stoked as missed it too many times.
16. G'day and Welcome I got fond memories of Stonehenge as we had several to many in a great little pub in Woodhenge and against better judgement we proceeded in 3 olive drab Pinzgauers to camp at Stonehenge with the Druids. I think that got a bit of a shock and thought the Army was invading :-D The only downside was the round rock thing was closed the next morning for a private function, well that and the hangover Living for the day :-D
17. Nice to see they still exist Sad to see that they wont sell to some museums to preserve them
