1. I managed to get some photos today, as you can see there wasn't a lot of room round the full sized Matador, it is partially restored, the cab has been re-skinned with new timber frame where necessary, the body sides are on the reader body. This is a R.A.F searchlight generator version whets the upper and lower sides open horizontally to allow airflow to the generator. I could only get to 1 of the half sized Matadors, the other (R.A.F.) one is in a friends garage and he is out of the country. The bike in front & Land-Rover wheels give an indication of size. The drivers seat is in the rear body on the right hand side.
2. Did you notice that the barrel is poking through the hedge, towards the new housing development that will be taking over the yard?
3. Is the restored one still on the Isle of Wight? Or was that sold as well?
4. I'm sorry, but I couldn't get near them to take any photos, there is a large pile of scrap Land Rover body panels in the way. When we get them out of the way I'll post more photos, it could be some time before we get the scrap cleared.
5. This is getting curiouser & curiouser, I Googled Skyddsvakt, there is a photo of a Pig in images, but it was posted by yourself, why would a security company be buying Pigs in 1994, other than the one used at Glastonbury festival?
6. Strange, Neil bought it out of Ludgershall, with other Pigs & the Piglets, it was the only Flying Pig there.
7. Photos taken this afternoon, the quality isn't great as everything is crammed in very tight. John
8. It appears that I was misled about the amount of Humber Pigs that Neil had, there is a complete Flying Pig and an incomplete Pig Ambulance, There is a complete Piglet and about 6 sets of armour that were removed from Piglets. As you can see from the photos it has steel doors, and although the wings are missing the mountings and stays are there.
9. IRRC there were 2 Centaur dozers at the old I.O.W military museum, 1 was restored and running, I believe that is the one that is now in the midlands, and the unrestored one is still there.
10. I'm going over to the yard tomorrow to take some photos, I'll go armed with a magnet and a woodworm and see which is attracted to the rear doors.
11. Correct Terry, unfortunately there isn't a prize, the owner of the yard is selling it for a housing development, and Neil is concentrating on other business interests like his pub.
12. Not quite as far as you brought the Shorland in mid August. I haven't seen any blue crosses on the front as they are towards the back of the yard and there are over 100 vehicles in the yard.
13. If you want to come up with a wheelbarrow full of cash and make an offer he may sell before the auction.
14. There are 6 to choose from Terry including at least 1 Flying Pig. Postage may kill the deal though.
15. Coming up at end of Feb/ beginning of March in Wiltshire auction of some very rare Military Vehicles, including a USMC International 1 1/2 ton, 1 of only 2 known, A unique Alvis Runway Surface Friction Tester, 2 Half Sized AEC Matadors, hard & soft cab Diamond T 981s Rogers Trailer, Scamell Explorer with Meadow petrol engine, very low mileage AEC Matador, 5.5inch gun, FH70 Howitzer, Foden FH70 Limber, Humber Pigs, Saracens, various Land Rovers including Piglets. More details to follow when the auction date is confirmed.
16. Hi Sam, the meetings start at 20:00ish, Neil who owns the pub owns a couple of Diamond Ts and is a mine of information on them
17. Hello Sam, why not pop down to the Pig & Whistle in Melksham on the first Tuesday of the month, the West Wilts MVT meet there and organise a couple of shows in the area e.g Lacock at War and the Wiltshire Armed Forces & Veterans Celebrations in Trowbridge.
18. It is an ex Swiss army trailer, a customer of ours has one, the wheels are the same as a Porsche 356 and a lot of the wheels ended up going to Porsche restorers. Apparently a few of these trailers were imported to the U.K. in the late 70s or early 80s. There should be a plate in German on the trailer with the makers details.
19. West Wilts MVT held their third Lacock at War show on 16th & 17th of August over 5000 visitors attended, here is a video of the show. http//youtu.be/gAPvVNis6bw
