  1. Miltary registrations beginning with X were used by the British Army, the R.A.F. And the Royal Navy on German built vehicles used in Germany, with the exception of XG registrations as mentioned in my earlier post. For example 28XG39 was a Mercedes 3 tonne 4x4 truck. It appears that XC registrations were used on British built vehicles of the Berlin Brigade such as Land-Rovers.
  2. I found a very interesting web page after searching 'military registration numbers', the page was on mafva.net, a military modelling site. According to that XG registrations were for the Commonwealth War Graves Commission in continental Europe. A word of warning for anyone looking at this web page, there is a LOT of interesting information on it and you can easily lose track of time when reading it.
  3. I was told by Neil that it was going to Australia, it left Melksham for Southampton docks the same week as the sale, the first week in May.
  4. Try Coca Cola, pour in a couple of big bottles and leave it for a few days, it worked for me on a motorbike petrol tank.
  5. I take it that was the Series 1 Hardtop, I don't know many of the prices as I was on a cruise when the auction happened, I had booked it well before the online auction was even thought of, I will chase up Neil, and get a list of what sold and the selling prices.
  6. This is the last photo of the "Juggernaut" in the U.K. It was sold to the new museum in Cairns, Australia so it will be a bit of a trek to see it when it is restored. Yet another unique bit of British history lost.
  7. I've been told that BOWMAN means Better Off With My Ancient Nokia!
  8. Take a look at http://www.reoclub.org, for the history of all REO vehicles. They built military trucks from 1941 to 1946 when civilian truck production resumed.
  9. Could it be a winch off an R.A.F. David Brown Tractor?
  10. That is a lovely bike, I have been lucky enough to see it a few times. I wouldn't be surprised if it sells for more than the estimate.
  11. None of the vehicles returned from Afghanistan have a union flag on them, Operation Herrick was a NATO operation wasn't it?
  12. Does anyone know when and why the British Military stopped putting the Union Flag on the front and rear of military vehicles? It only occurred to me that the flag is not on current vehicles when I was helping to prepare some Foxhounds for an exercise, of all the vehicles that we have at the Land Training Fleet only a couple of Land Rover 110s and a Leyland Daf DROPS have the Union Flag on them. Nobody in the workshops could tell me when the military stopped putting the flag on vehicles and many had not realised that they are now not on the vehicles. Did the government stop this "as it may offend minority's"?
  13. I spoke to Neil tonight and he told me that 16 of the lots sold, including both Diamond Ts, the Rogers trailer, the full size Matador and the 2 half sized Matadors, the Foden FH70 Limber, the Dodge Fire engine, the Series 1 Land Rover hardtop, and the FH70 Howitzer which is going to Australia!! Unfortunately I don't have the prices that they sold for.
  14. The Rogers trailer was fully restored a few years ago, with new tyres, brakes and electrics. It comes with 17 new old stock tyres. These photos were taken 3 weeks ago.
  15. Only a couple of 109s have been sold privately. The remaining Land-Rovers including 4 101s in various states, Lightweights, 109s, Series 1s, Series 2As, 110s and a very nice almost finished 90 Wolf with a 300 TDI fitted will be auctioned at a later date along with LOADS of Lan-Rover spares including NOS Lightweight & 101 Body panels. When the auction date is confirmed I will post it on here
  16. Tenders can be submitted by e-mail or in person, same as a Withams tender sale.
  17. There will be approximately 35 vehicles auctioned by tender on 3rd of May, viewing will be on Friday 1st & Saturday 2nd of May. These vehicles are; 2 Diamond Ts, 1 hard cab & 1 soft cab, a Scammel Explorer, an ex USMC International 1.5 ton, an AEC Matador, 2 half sized AEC Matadors (the ex Duxford ones), the unique Alvis Runway Surface Friction Tester, Scammell Crusader Recovery, Foden 6x6 Recovery, Leyland Martian Recovery, Bedford RL Recovery, Bedford RL, Green Goddess, Land Rover TACR1, Land Rover Piglet, Genuine Land Rover Series 2A Pink Panther (10FG88), Humber Flying Pig, Foden FH70 Limber, FH70 Howitzer, 5.5" Gun, 2 Leyland Daf DROPS, MOWAG Mobile Target, Series 1 Land Rover and more. All vehicles with photos will be listed on Milweb this weekend in the Auctions section. The remaining Land Rovers and spares will be auctioned at a later date which I will post as soon as I know it.
  18. I clicked on the T shirt ad and found that they were priced in U.S. dollars, I dread to think what the postage would be!
  19. Are there any privately owned Saxons? I have been approached by a film company that is looking for one they also want a 6x6 MAN even though they weren't in service at the same time, so an MJ or TM would be more suitable. Can anyone help?
  20. Did anyone see tonight's Supertruckers on Quest? The main part of the programme was the delivery of an AS90, a MLRS, a Warrior and a Stormer to last years Wiltshire Armed Forces and Veterans Celebration. There was also some good footage of the show, the West Wilts MVT banners were quite prominent at the start of the programme, but the gazebo hid most of my Leyland Daf. The programme is repeated on Saturday at midnight, Sunday at 23:00 and Wednesday at 23:00. This years Wiltshire Armed Forces and Veterans Celebrations is on 27th & 28th of June in Trowbridge Town Park, more information on http://www.wafvc.co.uk
  21. Goo to see some photos of what we have been hearing all week. An Apache came over very low last night, and the tanks have been firing since Sunday afternoon, it is even louder at work in Warminster.
  22. It is unique, built by Alvis on a modified Salamander chassis to test surface friction on airfield runways. It has an aircraft wheel connected to a dynamometer which is lowered on to the runway and records the friction. It was used by NASA to test the runway at Edwards Air Base before the Space Shuttle missions. It has a Rolls Royce B80 engine and a top speed of over 60 mph. It is complete and has only 1 previous owner, the Ministry of Aviation as can still be seen on the side of the cab.
  23. Hello Bill, the date has not been set yet, as soon as it has I will post it on this forum.
