  1. Those engines DO look sweet. Is there much of a step up in power with the modern heads etc? Look forward to seeing it A&E. Richard
  2. Thats a nice rig - Pioneer, 7.5 ton Cranes and Loyd carrier. I want some thing like that to go behind our Pioneer one day. What would be really nice is a Locust on a 7.5 ton Cranes.
  3. Very nice job, particularly the engine, which sounds superb. Reminds me, what happened to the Sexton that used to be seen about on a Scammell Pioneer transporter? Haven't seen it in quite a few years. Richard
  4. Very nice. I've not seen one of those before, they must be quite rare. Richard
  5. That does look good, really need to get on with mine.
  6. I work at a mechanical design consultancy in Bristol and we also have a large workshop. John, if the museum are having problems sorting a solution to the fan drive problem, send me what information you have and any photos, scans of the Tigers manual etc, and i'll see what I can do about sourcing / designing a replacement. Email me on: richard.fryer@sewardwyon.co.uk or call to discuss on 0117 932 7565 Richard
  7. Jack, Hahaha..............simple answer - no. I'm working on getting the Scammell back on its wheels at the moment. Yes i do have Paypal. Richard
  8. I just think it silly to have spent all this time, effort and money getting it running, and then to just leave it. But as we now know its out of action due to failed fan drives, which it sounds from John's post will be rectified in due course. As far as the case for wether it should recieve attention over a British vehicle, the very existence of tanks like the Tiger and Panther are in part why bigger british tanks were developed, thats what i was getting at with my 'story of tank evolution' remark. Richard
  9. I agree with Alastair, whilst the Tank Museum doesn't have their money, one thing we can learn from Mr Littlefield and Mr Wheatcroft is nothing is irreparable, its just a case of how much money and effort you want to throw at it. Thanks to John for a bit of clarification, at least now we can understand its out of action due to the fan drives. To those who say it shouldn't be restored at all, I fully agree that there are many British vehicles worthy of attention, but the Tiger is a vital link in the story of armour evolution, and now that the effort has been made to restore it to running condition in the first place, I think that every effort should be made to keep it so. Richard
  10. Got that right Lauren. I particularly liked the display of the 'guts' of a Bristol built twin bank radial engine. Richard
  11. Does anyone know if there is still a show held at the Bristol Industrial Museum? Richard
  12. I for one certainly don't mind paying the 15 quid. Food, loos and showers aside, think of all the time Jack and the team have/will put into this, and theres no public entry fees coming in. Jack, I've filled out the form on the A&E website and had the automatic response, where should I send the money to? Richard
  13. I've just read the latest issue of CMV, and have some questions regarding Bovington's Tiger. The article states that the vehicle was "retired to save its deteriorating condition from becoming irreparable" Correct me if i'm wrong, but as I always understood it, one of the conditions of the lottery grant to restore it was that the tank was used. Furthermore what was the point of carrying out a full, and surely very expensive, restoration if the thing is going to be retired, you could have made do with an external restoration. I recently heard on the grapevine that the Tiger has been through 4 engines, and when it was so called "retired" the engine was inhibited. Then sometime later when an attempt was made to start it, not all the inhibiting oils were succesfully purged and upon starting, two cylinders were broken through hydraulic lock, so that's one of the engines. Going back to the CMV article, a £40,000 appeal is now underway to restore the vehicle to working order.....again. A weekly warm up and short run round the museum track would have done wonders in maintaining the vehicle in fine fettle, with a minimum of wear and tear. Surely one of the now most rare and valuable pieces of military hardware deserves better. As I said before, correct me if i'm wrong. Richard
  14. Anyone got any more pics of those crane equipped 18 ton half tracks? I have a very brief film clip of one putting the turret back on a Pz IV, and would like to see more of them. Richard
  15. The title of your thread certainly grabbed my attention!! Welcome aboard. Richard
  16. Don't know explorers very well, but i think they're gearboxes are largely the same with the addition of a drop box for the front wheel drive, so can't see why not. Try it and see.
  17. is this the one that was winched out of a wood by an explorer some years ago?
  18. Stefano, Find below some pictures of my regulator as it was taken ouot of the vehicle with and without its cover. Also I previoulsy posted pictures of gauges and info about their scales on the following thread; http://www.hmvf.co.uk/forumvb/showthread.php?t=9986 I'll endeavour to get the manual scanned tomorrow, can you give me an email address I can send it to please. Let me know if theres anything else you need. Richard
  19. Stefano, Has your friend with the Pioneer got a workshop manual? because I was thinking about scanning mine, in which case I could send you a copy as a pdf. Richard
  20. This is all great info, thanks guys. One more - i'd like to buy an artic tractor unit and put a hiab behind the cab to use for lifting heavy bits during restorations, but at the moment have no need for a trailer. So, my question is, in the interests of spreading the cost of taking HGV 1 & 2, would i get away with driving a tractor unit solo on an HGV 2 licence? Richard
  21. Question - If you're operating an artic to transport your vehicles to shows, i.e. - not for hire and reward, do you still have to have an 'o' licence, tacho etc? Also I know you have to do the licence for rigid first but do you have to do 7.5te before that? (since i'm too young to have got it with my car licence?), and has anyone any idea, ballpark, what it costs to get the full HGV licence? I believe its called C+E. Cheers, Richard
  22. Hello Stefano, I'm SV2S's brother he mentioned in his messages. I don't have anything I want to sell but I will provide you with all the information and pictures I can. To begin with i'll get you some pictures of the regulator as soon as I can. Richard
  23. Where did those new wings come from? I tried searching for VW&R without success. Richard
