  1. the tyres will go on a Stalwart, or with a squeeze, a Saracen, or Saladin, although there may be clearance problems on the last two, as saracens and Saladins only had 12.00-20's as a max size. but as sombody said if the tyres are almost worn out, they wouldn't be any good to anyone ,...unless they were never going to be used on the road
  2. Sabre Sales, in Southsea, Portsmouth, have loads of them, and what Nick (the owner) calls, 'The Webbing Room' The only stuff he hasn't got in '37 pattern webbing, is that which wasn't made!, ...so in other words he's got the lot! Prices are extremely reasonable too!
  3. sorry to correct you, but the sand and green? one -closest to the Ferret is not a Cheiftain:nono:, the turret is totally different, looks more like a Challenger 1....:n00b:
  4. Welcome to our merry band of armour-loving people!
  5. something to do with painting the white lines on the road, measuring how far one has to walk with the paintbrush, and then how much further one needs to go, til one needs to change to a different line configuration, ie double yellow, single whitee line with broken lines etc....
  6. can you get tyres like that to fit Saracen, ie 12.00-20?, if so, where from, and are they upto supporting and coping with the weight (11tons -ish)
  7. yes! I know they meant an FV432!... I'm not that daft!
  8. spelling mistakes on back cover too!,-what's an AV432?......
  9. you could add a scruffy saracen to the list, I've seen a couple here and there......... (not mine!)
  10. oops! sorry,:n00b:,...I didn't see the '3 things' bit, so I'd like all this stuff, divvied up, into 3 HUGE :sweat:boxes,, nobody said anything about the size of the things.......
  11. Dear Santa,:-D I have been a good boy, this year, so, if possible, I would like: 1x New Saracen gearbox, 6x New (old stock) Dunlop Trak Grip 12.00-20 tyres 9x New (old stock, obviously!) green vinyl-type seat-back cushions, (also used in Ferrets, I believe) .....any items of C.E.S. Kit. 1x Replica 30cal Browning Heavy Machine Gun, (or a fully strippable deact!,or, one of those really cool LPG? firing, replicas,...-now that really would be cool!):cool2: 1x New Saracen Mk5 scale model kit, the BIG one currently on the market, the one made from resin, and etched brass etc. 1x New Stalwart Mk2 kit, from the same people, 1x up and running, with Clansman type intercom, road registered, FV432 Mk2 Diesel A.P.C....oh and 'H' licence training and test.....:-D 1x '19' radio set, fully working, with intercom to suit my saracen 1x 9x9 command tent 1x Leyland DROPS 8x8 truck to move my toys over longer distances and last of all for the moment, my own plot of land, council tax exempt, where I could all my like minded friends come and drive their vehicles, and have a storage/garage/workshop for all my toys:coffee:  I promise to be good til Christmas, and afterwards too.
  12. well I'll certainly turn up,- in the saracen (if mended by then! gerbox replacement! argh!), have to be after April though!
  13. Nikki, Brad and I went to the Royal British Legion, Rememberance Service in Eastleigh. I reckon there must have been around 150, maybe 200 or so others, obviously not including the local youth orgs, Air Cadets, and Army Cadets, (slightly disappointed at their drill and turnout, not their fault, I admit, they only follow example...and if that's not good, well, ...suffice to say a better leader would do the trick!), back to the service.... after the well known reading: 'At the going down of the sun.....' etc, approx 30-40 people just wandered off!!, almost gave me the feeling they were gathering to see 'what's going on here?', and after losing interest quickly departing. I personally found it a very moving service, as always, as did Nikki and Brad. I fail to see why people have a problem stopping for what amounts to roughly 45 mins or so, of peace and thought for those lost, and for those who have lost others. I stood silent for the 'two minute silence', despite my own discomfort, ...and still one could hear cars driving along the roads. This service is held every year, and I shall continue to support it. Thanks to all who did come and stay til the end, And thanks to John, for the lift you gave Brad and I, in your 1939/40 Bedford OY truck.
  14. yeah!, well said, if they fix and replace my gearbox:sweat:, and pay for fuel, rations, decent wages, and probably an alternative paint-job, in desert stone,:cool2: ...I'll drive out there, in my Saracen:cool2:, and help bring our boys:-\ and girls:yay: back from danger!......
  15. Personally, I think the Government Scrappage Scheme, is an absolutely ridiculous idea:nono:,....but then again, it was thought up by who? -oh yes, of course, the government:n00b:
  16. looking at the pic again, but magnified the image this time and , yes it does appear to have tracks! so not a ferret.....
  17. I don't think they are tracks you can see at the front, just above the water level, it's more likely a slight blur on the motion of the trak-grip tyres/water splashing, I think it is some sort of prototype amphibious ferret..... though judging by the other pics not very successfull, in one shot it is almost under water, with a diver in the turret, and then later looks like it is being towed out by a hoofing great truck
  18.....would it not be a lot easier to take the Friday and Monday off?,and travel by night, then you'd have two full days 'over there'............:coffee:
  19. Looks like a Crusader to me!........... possibly undergoing restoration? As for the unit, I'll check with my Dad, he'll know...
  20. Did I miss it? I've been in Hospital, so may have missed it because of this fact, -When is the next one, any idea? Regards Matt
  21. good job [MOD EDITTED AS THIS PERSON HAS NO CONNECTION WITH THIS CRIME] bought the Saracen in 2003, that eventually became mine in 2005!, hope they let you out soon Andrew.... regards Oily
  22. You said VASS have the contract to supply the MOD, their 1200-20's, assuming they are radials, being modern tyres, do you have any idea of the tread pattern, and do you reckon they'd be ok on my Mk 5 Saracen, am hoping the tread pattern it Trak-grip, or at least Bar-grip style.....but would really like Trak-Grip cheers
  23. were the 1200-20's you saw at Withams Bar grips, or Trak-grips?
  24. amazing work, mate!!! fancy having a go at bulding a saracen, but a light weight version?:-D
  25. as someone has already said, it's a blanket warning, after all all branches of 'Oswald Baileys' (other outlets available) sell compasses for map reading purposes, which have exactly the same type of paint in them..... and are used by countless numbers of young Army Cadets, Air Cadets, and soldiers......it's just gpvernment manby-pamby nonsense. any one asks again, tell them you've replaced them with replica guages....
