  1. Very nice job, Paul, doesn't bear any resemblance to the 'basket case' you were given to start with! Lovely looking machine and brought in on deadline. Well Done.
  2. Hi, Having had the radio shack version of this great BRITISH truck, I would love another one. Apart from the potential spares problems, you have picked a great truck for the project! Best of luck, Mike
  3. Looks like someone bought that 1950's Albion WD23N 6 x 4 chassis cab which was advertised on here a few weeks back, we passed it on a low loader heading north up the M6 near Telford yesterday.Good luck to the buyer, great truck.
  4. Hi FEC, This is a very good point! I had on many occasions wondered the same. However, now that you have brought it up, there is an answer and don't give me any accolades for knowing it. No, it is the 'bible' of our passion which provides, I hope, the answer. Bart Vanderveen, Observers Military vehicle directory from 1945 , which I just happen to have in my back pocket, tells us (under the picture of the FV11018 Militant Mark 1, page 198) that there was only a prototype of a mark 2 and it was an FV11041 M/H Anti Aircraft tractor which appeared in 1962. Mystery solved unless anyone else knows better! Regards, Mike.
  5. Hi Jonny666, You've picked an interesting one here. Of all the mark two Antars left, (probably less than ten), this one 54BH26, is a survivor, but you may have to go a very long way to see her. This mark two was bought by L.W. Vass, military vehicle dealers from Ruddington sales in June of 1978, then sold the next month to John Cooper and from there to Mervyn Annetts and finally to Phil Rye.This is one of the Antars bought by Phil to grace his forthcoming Snowy Mountain Equipment museum in Australia. Registered in the UK as YNJ932T, she was painted in orange and red at one point and made the trip to Oz, being joined by Brian and Rob Bailey's mark two XSK481 to make a representative pair for this project. So she is still alive and well and I have it on good authority that she enjoys sitting under her wooden canopy in the Australian sun. Hope your friend is pleased to hear the news! Bw Mike.
  6. Well done, guys, Sounds like a tank and goes like a tank, great improvement on the last mis-firing two-yards-at-a-time video posted. Thanks for posting it. Regards, Mike.
  7. Hi, Did the March 11th weekend on Slab Common with Conqueror and Antar happen? Look forward with anticipation to some pictures. Thanks. Mike.
  8. From a fellow Gateshead 'Geordie', a very warm welcome. You will enjoy your experiences on this forum. Ask questions if you don't know, there is always someone on here who will help you. However, should you travel south, make sure you have plenty of custard creams handy! I think they use it as some sort of currency! All the best, Mike.
  9. Tell me I haven't done a Rip van Winkle and fallen asleep until April the First.
  10. Hi all, For those who think it doesn't snow in central south-west France, you're wrong. Minus 12 last night, three inches and it's throwing it down for the rest of the day. No water, input pipes frozen, however, forecast was spot-on, so lots of chopped wood for the wood-burner and going outside now to use some snow for washing and flushing the 'loo! Don't you just love the winter! Stay safe, Bw Mike.
  11. What a great thread, but well done MAT777, if you don't ask you would never know and that is what the forum is for. Since I joined this great forum, my knowledge base across the board has jumped 100 times, so as they say on 'that' dance programme my wife loves 'keep on asking!
  12. Hey, it's a tough world out there. Diversification is the new buzz word! Go get them, Jack. Bw Mike.
  13. Hi Rosie, Well done for asking. You won't be the only one not to know! Basically, without getting into the technicalities. As an artist or photographer, you would make only a limited number of prints to provide 'added value' and make them more collectable i.e. only one of 150 and signed by the artist. Giclee is just a type of print process which is considered the best way to achieve a limited edition print with good longevity. Sorry if this is slightly off topic, but I wish you luck with the sale Jack. Bw Mike.
  14. Back to our friends at Fleet Data again. Send me a pm if you want to write to them, when you find out what the number is. 24RN40-24RN49 were all Bedford CASV30 10 cwt Utilecons 24RN40 for example was cast in December of 1960. Hope this helps, Regards, Mike.
  15. Thanks Paul, I am not used to getting a response from my p.m's in seven hours. Brilliant fast quote, plus extra help and advice. I have to say good service, work looks good, dix points. Talk soon, Best wishes, Mike.
  16. Hi Paul, Would you like to give me a price for a pair of Mark three wings on the same lines? PM please. Thanks. regards, Mike
  17. Many thanks Plannters, I so enjoyed reading that press release!
  18. Hi, Let me be one of the first to wish you good luck, as this is THE most beautiful British WW2 vehicle you could restore. The very best of luck and may your wallet be self-replenishing!!! Keep the pictures coming. let us all know which chassis numbers etc, it is, when you get time. Mike.
  19. Hi Gerry, In the RTFD publications (which I hope you manage to get a hold of), only certain Jeep numbers have a date next to them. It just so happens that it appears to be the preserved ones, which have a date, (a release/cast date?) next to them. Happy reading! bw, Mike.
  20. Hi Paul, Just interested to know which Antar it is that you have. Do you have an army reg and/or chassis number for it. bw, Mike.
  21. To save you time, Clive, try 4/59 for Gerry 275. bw Mike.
  22. Hi Clive and Richard 44GPW, If our friends at RTFD are right, then the date following the reg is earlier than 1957, Clive. Try May of 1956. same advice Richard, try the address on the thread for a copy of the RTFD booklet. BW Mike.
  23. Hi Pete, I do have the Fleet data booklet for YH and would suggest that you write to the Road Transport Fleet Data Society at 18 Poplar Close, Biggleswade, Beds SG18 0EW to ask them if you can join them (the fee is very reasonable) and purchase a copy of the YH and YJ booklets (don't quote me, but they used to be something like £3 each). I think Peter Jarman is still involved. Have tried to find a web-site for them, but nothing accurate except some fire engine/ambulance lists on other sites. They do appear though to still be 'around' as the dates are early 2011. Price of a stamp might get you a useful booklet. Jeeps start at 09YH and yours has Nov of 1957 next to it. Hope this helps you; BW.Mike.
  24. Hi, I was at Bulford a couple of weeks ago. 'Commander' on gate duty didn't look anything like the 52KB85 pics. This one is in flat green with a ballast box in back-up vehicle form and Pte.J.Henderson written in large letters on the bonnet side. Think it was either 52KB83 or 93. Distance is an object, eyes aren't getting any better as age progresses! Could this be the Aldershot one as WM takes possession of '85? It didn't look in great condition. Hopefully, next one on the Army's renovation list. BW, Mike.
  25. No it's not a game ,Clive, I am not really stuck either. It was just that I was arranging the very thick bundle of loose papers making up the manual into order, engine, gearbox, etc, I was left with this stapled section of 28 pages which I quickly realised wasn't part of the book. Page 9 is followed by Page 179 and then 370, and there are no clues other than those given, but I think, Richard, that you have solved it, if there are Mk 6/6A Salamanders. Thanks to both of you for a swift response. I can now file it accordingly. BW. Mike.
