  1. Pioneer engine cover on Ebay. Location Northampton Ebay nos 130311855326.
  2. Not forgetting the 77/86/88BP range, Q4's with winch tippers! Mike.
  3. Thanks 00EC25, Sorry I didn't understand that information wasn't to be used for selling something that wasn't any use to me now, but may be what someone else wanted . It is extraneous from my days in the eighties when I was a collector of MV's. I didn't 'use' Clive as the comment suggests, I asked a simple question, that's what I thought forums were for. You will see that I also answer questions from others without worrying what possible financial use it can be to them. And I am not HE , My name is Mike. Anybody know anything about AC fuel pumps,I have a collection of three of those on Ebay too! I would like to say, Best wishes, Mike
  4. Hi Mike, The details came from the Ruddington catalogue itself. It was obviously a last-minute entry as they issued it with lot number 1824/1, whilst 1824 was a Rubery-Owen two wheeled air-braked trailer chassis. Date was 19th July 1968 and it was located on the Marshalling yard grounds of the Rdgtn site. Regards,Mike.
  5. Good luck Mister Socks, The Q4 is a great truck , bit thirsty, but incredibly powerful. Used to own one of the SXF reg AFS personnel carriers. I did have a lot of trouble with the control box and charging circuit, but , if I remember rightly , the control box was similar, if not the same as, some of the old Morris car range. They look and act like a real vintage army truck should!! Give us a number as soon as you can, a few of us will have some idea of it's history. Best Wishes,Mike.
  6. Hi , Great thread; boy, have I learnt a lot. Always interested in anything Antar. Here's a new question. I have found another Antar sold through Ruddington with similar number to Mike's, but this time, 380 FUL, described as 85 ton Tractor with Meteorite engine with two gearboxes, giving 12 speeds forward and 3 in reverse, power steering , airbrakes and Darlington 15 ton winch. Anybody know any more info on this one??? Thanks, Mike
  7. Hi Stone. No problems with change of number. 99SP12 is a V.S.E.L. MCV80 Warrior Armoured Personnel carrier.( VSEL being Vickers Shipbuilding and Engineering Limited) Probably built on Scotswood Road, Newcastle (my home town) or Vickers Leeds. I take no credit for knowing this. The info is taken from a publication from those clever 'Data Fleet' people who had the foresight to list all these things in the nineties. Hope this is of some use to you. (99SP13 wasn't used). Best wishes, Mike.
  8. Thanks Clive. Amazing answer and thanks for the great pictures. Incidentally found a second one in the same catalogue, 05BK50 discharged Ruddington, same date 3rd October 1968. Improved my knowledge once more, Thanks for your help. I can't see how, but if I can help you at all, you know where to find me! Best wishes, Mike.
  9. Hi Clive, Tapping your amazing brain again. Whilst reading a Ruddington Auction book last night in bed ( I know, sad isn't it!), I came upon the following; 09BK65 Humber Truck with Dunlop Charging Unit. What was it charging , why and why Dunlop! Thanks in anticipation (yet again!) Mike.
  10. While I thought the idea was a good one, the second part is suspect. An army fights as a team, would you want a politician covering your back?
  11. Thanks Clive, A brilliant answer from you as normal. Thanks for that, really appreciate your time! You,too, Robert, however, I was hoping to do a bit better than £1! Thanks again, Mike.
  12. Hi again, Another enquiry, two in one day. I would just like some confirmation, please, on the potential history of these gloves. My father told me that they were Dispatch Riders gloves and of Canadian origin.. He is now no longer with us, so I can’t confirm it with him They have been in the family since the war. They are in perfect condition. Any knowledge would be helpful, Thanks, Mike

  14. Hi, Do you have a number? might be able to find out if you have. Mike.
  15. I have read the thread and I don't think anyone has told you yet , that the Humber was a 1604A wireless vehicle, usually those after 33BK?? had a good chance of being wireless-backed trucks.Yours looks to have been 36BK 21. I used to own 35BK00, superb vehicle, suspension brilliant , greasing maintenance nightmare. Wonderful vehicle. Loved it to bits. Mike.
  16. Well said.NOS. very good point!
  17. The guide prices on the Schwimm's at the Gex auction were 120,000 euros, Neither were sold at the sale,as there was no appetite for these sort of prices. Perhaps deals were made later, who knows what goes on after these sales!
  18. Hi guys, We, too, are horrified by this lack of respect for our Queen. We live in France and love the French people. They are very sympathetic, warm-hearted and amazingly honest. This is, above all, about that other race of people, called politicians, and you know all about them in the UK at the moment.. ‘Our chappie’ here certainly seems to have a knack of upsetting everyone at the moment. Someone correct me if I am wrong, but didn’t the American forces have to ‘hang around’ outside Paris in August ’44 while they scrabbled around trying to find their main man so that a Frenchman could be seen to liberate the city and didn’t I read on the news section of this site, that despite the phenomenal efforts of the ‘southern states’ troops of America ( Red Ball express, etc) in particular, none were allowed to be seen in the liberation of Paris! Bizarre! Paris liberation made 'whites only' Written by Administrator Tuesday, 07 April 2009 14:40 Black colonial soldiers - who made up around two-thirds of Free French forces - were deliberately removed from the unit that led the Allied advance into the French capital. Papers unearthed by the BBC reveal that British and American commanders ensured that the liberation of Paris on 25 August 1944 was seen as a "whites only" victory. Many who fought Nazi Germany during World War II did so to defeat the vicious racism that left millions of Jews dead. Yet the BBC's Document programme has seen evidence that black colonial soldiers - who made up around two-thirds of Free French forces - were deliberately removed from the unit that led the Allied advance into the French capital. By the time France fell in June 1940, 17,000 of its black, mainly West African colonial troops, known as the Tirailleurs Senegalais, lay dead. Many of them were simply shot where they stood soon after surrendering to German troops who often regarded them as sub-human savages. Their chance for revenge came in August 1944 as Allied troops prepared to retake Paris. But despite their overwhelming numbers, they were not to get it. I think ‘Retriever’ put it in a nutshell Good job we did not wait for an invitation 65 years ago. All you guys who are going for the celebrations have a great time!
  19. I think the date 01/04/ at the bottom of the piece may also throw some light on it, but good try anyway, bit more time on Photoshop training required!
  21. Hi Clive, Sorry off topic too. Yes, 'owned' in the past tense is the right word. tax man wanted some money so my beloved 1604A went back to the Army in a preserved state 35BK00, also had 26BK06/30BK51/33BK76 and a couple of others which, unfortunately, died! Yes, will find time to post pics of her! regards, Mike

'Nit picky detail I know, but does anyone have any suggestions as to what the regular pattern of 4 drilled holes on the front bumper seen on some vehicles was for? Visible on the sand one attributed to the DLI museum in post 1(is that the name of the Newcastle museum, where I've seen this one?) and also on one of those in post 23. Either side of the radiator area, large and small 'offset'. They suggest the bolting on of some standard bit of kit(s). Any ideas what? Obviously not something just on the earlier models as some later ones have them as well'. Hi guys, Just a note to let you know that should you venture north into the beautiful area around Newcastle, you will find that the DLI museum and the North east Military Museum are two different museums. The North east military museum is located in a listed 1929 building in the centre of Exhibition Park, Newcastle, but there were public access issues because of the state of the building. Not sure how the situation stands at the moment.www.nemvc.org.uk. The DLI is close to the centre of Durham City and as it name says, specialises in the history of the Durham Light Infantry. There are limited vehicle exhibits ( I remember a Jeep), but still well worth a visit. However, confusion may have arisen as the NEMVC (the Newcastle museum guys) hold their excellent annual open day on the lawns surrounding the DLI museum on August Bank Holiday weekend. Definitely one for your diaries.Plenty of heavy kit from the likes of Geoff Maskell and Denny Thompson and you will be assured of a great Geordie welcome! regards,Mike.
  23. Thanks Mike, Had e-mailed v.d's, but had no reply yet. Just checking to see if someone may have had one sitting in a yard somewhere. Thanks again, Mike.
