1. Thanks Robert. Yes,that makes sense for a light commercial to have 6-stud hubs. Something like this 1941 PO van:
2. I've found that the tyre size fits these cars and probably many more: AUSTIN 8, BSA Sports and Scout, FORD 8hp, 10hp, Popular (Anglia), MORRIS Eight, Morgan 4/4, VAUXHALL 10hp, WOLSELEY 8 But would any of these have had this style 6-stud wheel?
3. Yes, that is what is strange about these wheels. 6 stud for 10 cwt trailers but not cars.......17" dia too, where trailer wheels are 16".
4. Evening Hans, I think that could well be right. They make perfect "spares" for the trailers, but would be good to see them passed onto the correct vehicle.
5. I've recently acquired some WWII 10 cwt trailer parts, and including two unusual wheels. (Photos below) They are fitted with old good condition 4.5x17 tyres. The wheels look very similar to usual British Lightweight trailer wheels with 6 hole pattern....but have raised "buttons" and pressed dips which I think are for a hub cap of some type. Any ideas on what they are from? Not Tilly because 6-stud?
6. I think you are asking about the fixed metal pipe on the chassis? The bowser is in storage so not easy to measure for you, so here are a couple of photos to enable you to judge:
7. Evening Richard, Do you have any thoughts on the difference in heights of these two MUREX trailers? There look to have been built at similar time i.e. during WWII, but this new one has been adapted to be at least 6" higher. Re: the Compressor trailer...."spark but no bang" about sums it up :-D
8. Hi Dave, I've just been comparing photos of my original MUREX with this one. It looks like this is on a very well made extra frame that raises it on the sprung sub-chassis. Certainly makes it easier to work on, but believe the original lower version was so that it could fit into limited height Horsa glider main spar (ala airborne Jeep's removable steering wheel). We'd like to start and try welding with it first before we take any steps to return to original height....but that will be a longer term project.
9. After thinking I'd had enough of British lightweight trailers for a while....another has come along. As these are really quite rare its a case of "buy it when you can"....so I did and am sharing 50/50 with Tony Lawrence (you can imagine how delighted our wives are....) It will be a long term project to return to WWI spec, but looks in remarkable condition and has been in dry storage for last 6 years. It is said to have been used shortly before it went into storage. Strangely it came from the same part of Norfolk/Suffolk as my last MUREX. It appears to have had a number of post-war mods but it is clearly very similar to the one now residing in USA. Anyway a few photos. We'll try to start it soon and strike an arc.
10. More about the rear chassis/hook:
11. Hello Marco, Your water trailer looks familiar. Think it was on Milweb earlier this year, and was seen for sale at Ciney last week. It has an unusual addition to the access area and has lost the rear frame. Here are some photos of my trailer, and there other members of this forum who are now restoring two more of these trailers and they will have photos of the vertical displacement pump, rather than the semi-rotary I have fitted.
12. Yes, I was looking at that. Trying to decide whether whole trailer is taller, or whether it is kit piled on top of a GS.
13. I am aware that this trailer is for sale in North London. All I can do is put up some photos on the forum and pass on any interest to the vendor. I expect Richard will know more about these trailers and be able to add some background. It clearly has the post-war Coventry Climax generator (air cooled I think). Not putting up vendors direct contact details on open forum, but pm me for them if interested. Cheers
14. http://www.milweb.co.uk/classifieds/view_large.php?ad=83468&cat=4 For the last few years has been kept under cover in a barn for museum display purposes. Engine needs attention but starts well, vehicle moves. Nearly ready for a museum presentation. Chassis frame, body, front wheels are superb condition, back wheels are original condition. Could easily be made ready for the Centenary of the US entry into WW1. Vehicle is not licensed. 34,000 € (euros).
15. Hi Chris, Good to see another Garwood wrecker. These are some photos of my truck and you can see the differences: I'll be giving it a run out on Sunday, so let me know which particular measurements you'd like or any close-up shots
16. Hi Ian, Those parts from Richard look good. Looking forward to seeing the completed filters fitted up
17. A few more. Sunshine and heavy rain made for an interesting Revival this year. The carparks were awash by Saturday evening but dried very quickly on Sunday. We collected the TA today, strange how quickly the whole site was being dismantled. Looking forward to next year.
18. I thought it looked more like ablutions at at an early Beltring
19. Ditto. Sadly. One only has to look back and the first editions to see the change from Pat's days as editor.
20. Hi Paul, Another interesting trailer. Is that the "Louis" we both know? Great shame about the shipping damage. Timber can be easily repaired but mudguard will take a little more work. I am aware from all my trailer resources at present, but Anthony has answered from the same Chilwel book I would have looked in for you.
21. Yes Niels agree, it would be great to see you here
