  1. Clive, Thanks for reply....as you say any information about these particular trailers is in short supply. Having also restored "Airborne" No1 and No2 trailers, many of the fittings are identical, but the bowser trailer has a special chassis for the galvanised tank. As the 100 gallon bowser was developed for the Jeep, it tows perfectly behind my 44 Willys. Agree with you re: trailers being considered as incidental. Although I think there is increasing interest in them, particular if WWII vintage....and this is reflected in recent prices. John
  2. Hello Clive, I think my trailer (pictures on thread) is the 100 gallon version you mention on p.8 of your paper. Do you have any other information about these lightweight trailers? I understand they were developed for Airborne forces; and they are listed on 6th AB Div vehicle lists. Thanks John
  3. A historic drop. Thanks for posting. I was there three weeks ago....on a bike. Did I see one in the trees? Trust he was ok. Was on Ginkel seven years ago when several (Belgium airborne troops?) were injured as they overshot and hit the tall beech tress behind Zuid Ginkel Cafe. Sadly also that day a guy with a modern civilian chute was killed when it "candled" and he landed near Planken Wambuis. And is the main drop still on Ginkel Heath tommorrow? John
  4. Best Beer Tent? The CAMRA run one at Ardingly Vintage Vehicle Show:cool2:
  5. Hi Dusan, British Airborne forces developed a small 100 gallon bowser based on standard Airborne Trailer parts and a special chassis. I have restored this one... Light and tows perfectly behind a Jeep. Capable of being Glider bourne - but not found photo of one in action yet. John
  6. Great stuff Tomas, I will be at the War & Peace Show later in month - so will look out for a MWC to photograph ...and post them on this thread. Cheers, John.
  7. I know that Nigel removes an advert quickly...... as long as the seller tells him the item is SOLD.
  8. Tomas, A few other old photos and one more recent example. Might be useful to see how the kit was stored etc Good luck with the engine! John
  9. Hi Tomas, Great work! Thought you might be interested in these photos I took in Normandy last year.... Cheers John
  10. Thanks for the welcome Guys. Richard - yes remember meeting you at Combined Ops. Mark: will try to post some photos of the Airborne Bowser ... when I work out how..... RE: Airborne trailers - have you seen the one on Ebay at present? Will post a seperate message as a "heads up" John
  11. Hi, After having lurked on this forum for a while and having thoroughly enjoyed reading about some great restorations, feel it is time to post an intro. I've been interested in WWII history and MV since school. Not counting Airfix......started by helping a friend maintain his halftrack in ealry 1990's (change tracks and back axle after a catastrophic failure on the M20!). Some MV events I have been involved in: 1995 Tribute and Promise in the Mall; numerous Bethune trips; 2005 and 2009 IMPS trips to Normandy; annual trip to Oosterbeek (family connection there); took part with the Jeep in the 2007 Centenary celebrations of the FANYs at Buckingham Palace (met the Queen and then parade down Mall to Chelsea Hospital....not a normal MV event !) And not forgetting lots of W&P's and the 2009 Combined Ops. My wife's family are from the Netherlands; father-in-law was liberated in Helmond (nr Eindhoven) by Op Market Garden; mother-in-law had a much tougher war in Rotterdam....survived on raw sugar beet and saw Operation Manna. As a result of this connection, my 1944 Willys is marked up as Guard's Armoured Div. Also have couple of Airborne trailers and have just finished restoring an Airborne Water Bowser. Anyway, enough of an intro I think. Tot ziens en groeten, John
