Yes Tim, Thought of someone who might like it when I spotted it Must be worth it weight in gold to the right person......just checking gold price on London Metals Exchange :cool2: QUOTE=Great War truck;454995]Crikey John. That is an amazing find. -
Tony I don't get that option when completing the online application, which made me wonder if a new requirement for heavier vehicles had quietly been made mandatory. Anyway, I've now found an email address for the Vehicle Tax section of DVLA and contacted them for clarification or correction. Will let the forum know their response

Morning Ian, I have just acquired what I think is a special made spanner for your 180 Gallon Bowsers: Have you got one already? -
Received my V11 Vehicle Tax reminder for the 1943 Chevrolet today. This is the first of renewal after importing and licensing the truck. It is exempt from goods vehicle testing by virtue of its age and I submitted a signed V112G at time of registration with DVLA. Exempt from MoT as pre-1960 Easy I thought, just went on the DVLA system, and it will not progress my renewal because it does not have an MOT certificate. Close examination of the V11 reminder form highlights the sentence: "This vehicle needs a goods vehicle test certificate from 1/1/2016" So my question to the forum is, am I missing something new: "Has there been a change in testing requirements of historic goods vehicles in UK to be implemented from 1st Jan 2016?"

Or the 0.5" Browning. The conversation started yesterday around why the US used a metric 37mm shell in WWII

That is interesting Guy. I had not heard about immediate post-war built trailers in Belgium. I'd always guessed that with so much spare kit around, the Belgium army would have used ex-British trailers. Close examination of your photos shows some subtle differences from the usual British "standard" design. Apart from those highlit by Anthony,: 1. the leg clamps on the rear quarters and on the main front chassis are all slightly different to the "usual" British cast clamps; 2. The rope cleats bolted through he side planking are of a different design 3. The handbrake actuator is also different from the norm. I was wondering why they had reverted to the earlier "barrel" style drawpin box. British trailers moved to the one-piece cast design with integral side arms by mid-WWII. I can only think that the welded barrel was far easier to manufacture in post-war conditions and did not require the complex special casting. A very interesting trailer that adds another piece to the jigsaw of the history of this underrated group of MVs.

Thought I'd add some photos of the trailer as it currently stands as a record for anyone who is planning to restore one of these in the future: -

Anthony, You should be able to find something similar online. V-belt standard sizes: B Section - 17mm x 11mm or C Section - 22mm x 14mm So you are saying your belt is between these, as I doubt its grown over last 70 yrs I'm guessing it is a C-section and 1330mm long. Thats makes it a C-50 Could try this: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/C50-22x1270-Li-V-Belt-/140980778279?hash=item20d31bf527 -

Anthony, Can you bring the valve and worn threaded connector on Wednesday evening? I can see the thread issue, which I'd have thought could be Helicoiled, but not sure what you mean by "crazing". Do you think the alloy is corroded through? -

Ian, Didn't you take the opportunity to explain to the curator that the US didn't use them and that you'd take it off their hands to "improve" the authenticity of the museum?
