  1. Mark, Saracens were not used in the Gulf. After the 432 and later CVRT turend up they were mostly retired, although they did last in Northern Ireland for a bit longer. You should be able to fit Clansman into one but I have no manuals etc. Chris
  2. Hi Ted, I know GXH355 well, that photo was taken on our pitch at Beltring last week. The AFS logos can still be seen under the gloss green paint. Do you have any more in service photos of it? Despite the owner telling people that they are 1950s Canteens, there are people out there who own them that believe they were used to serve tea in the Blitz. Chris
  3. The ones in the Americas Field are usually good, this year they weren't as good as the last few years, not enough of them and not cleaned often enough. The main shower block was properly serviced though, so it was worth the extra walk!
  4. The gearbox oil pump is driven from the input shaft, so if the vehicle is towed with the transfer box engaged it will be rotating without any lubrication, which is not really a good idea
  5. You should be able to book in at the gate, but they will charge you £50.

    What is it

    Yes, that's a Pig.
  7. Neil, Perhaps you should have just bought an FV432 instead? Chris
  8. Neil, Did you actually get any of this in writing? If you've spent all that money on the basis of talking to someone on the phone, or hearsay, then there isn't a lot you can do about it! Chris
  9. You don't technically need rubber pads (unversal carriers are road legal on steel track) and you definitley don't need a reversing camera. The beacon is another grey area, if you're doing more than 25mph you don't need that either. If you're buying something British, like a CVR(T) then registering it is easy. Once it's registered you don't need an MOT, just a tax disc.

Adam, There is nothing wrong with making whatever vehicle you like and painting it however you like, but I wouldn't want to go to a Military Vehicle show and see a load of dune buggies painted nato green. (Unless they are ex-military dune buggies of course) If I go to a military vehicle show I want to see military vehicles, I want to see them as they were in service, not pimped up with any and every accessory the owner has been able to buy at the stalls. I understand that many of the older vehicles have spent longer in civilian usage than they did in service, and that as long as they are on the roads and going to shows that's fine, but I've been to a number of shows (W&P is the worst) where anything with vaguely military markings is put on display, and I don't think that should be happening! Chris
  11. The Jordanians are using Petlas, there are a fer Ferrets over here running them now too. Chris
  12. The crew are all wearing the Mk 6 helmet, the driver and commander have the headsets which fit under the helmet and have a velcro strap over the top. For some reason the guy in the gunners hatch has no headset, maybe he's just along for the ride!
  13. Someone definitley forgot to check the oil level on this one, I think both photos were from the same Spartan!
  14. That would be me...........
  15. I wanted to call them and have a moan, but they are only open 9-12 and 2-5.
  16. Has anyone seen this letter today? What are you going to do about it? I've never seen a bigger waste of money and time!
  17. The rear damper is missing too. It looks like the running gear is struggling to keep up with the up armouring.
  18. Mark, Are you booked in yourself, or as part of a living history group? If you're booked in yourself you need to go to the booking in tent, sign in and get a wrist band. I guess if you're part of a group, you do the same thing, but tell them which one and they'll have a list. They won't hand you a wrist band unless you are booked in, you have to sign for the wrist band. Chris
  19. That looks very smart, well done. Don't worry about the tyre paint, I find it's much quicker to paint the tyres after you've sprayed them than it is to mask them first Chris
  20. Lee, What you need is a W&P webcam, so we can all see what's going on down there this week while at work Chris
  21. Lee, the drivers scope was in when I put it on the low loader, it is a bit of a squeeze getting in the drivers seat with it fitted so I suspect they took it out to unload it. Thanks for moving them! Chris

Surely if we were to go and delete any thread which might upset someone we are no better than the bunch of idiots running the country? My initial post was not meant to single out anyone and have a laugh at a particular vehicle, it was to illustrate the point that over accesorising a vehicle with bits that are not meant for it can, in my non expert opinion, ruin an otherwise nice vehicle. Then we get to the pink panther situation in the book just mentioned, where someones fictional replica gets announced to the world (if it's in a book it must be true) as the real deal! If you want to do anything with the thread then lock it, perhaps it has gone as far as it needs to, but I don't think it's offensive enough to warrant deletion!
  23. Do we have to get up early again?
