  1. It certainly makes you wonder. A shame but we'll see what I can do. I've owned it since I was 12 so after 7 years as you can imagine I'm getting a bit desperate to have her on the road. I know you can do a lot of damage with a big girder-like bumper across the front but at the same time I'm never going to be doing more than 45-50mph. I also heard something along the lines of Landy insurance had shot up because they were easy to steal and easy to trade stolen parts on with no trace. Not sure how much truth there is in that but it would seem a valid point. Not sure why anyone would want to steal a 40 year old Land Rover in the first place but there you go! As it will be more of a weekend toy I'll see what the quote comes to with mum and dad on the policy as they're going to be using it equally as much as me on a very limited mileage. Tried the NFU but unfortunately you have to be over 21, or if going for a classic policy, over 25. It is a pain and I can well understand Paul's frustration having a fleet of vehicles his sons can't enjoy out on the road. Sometimes even from a practical aspect, for example taking vehicles to and from shows can be a hurdle. It would be so easy for dad to drive the Spartan and me drive the Ferret to any nearby events, but sadly that can't happen either for a few more years!
  2. Being 19 I find it very difficult as I've been into classic vehicles for so long, I could not wait for the day I could get my driving licence. I've been trying to find someone who will cover me on my Series III Landy but it's almost impossible. Noted down a few of the insurers listed here so I'll give them a call when spring comes round. Daily I drive a 24 year old Micra I got for nothing, never had an accident and don't go blasting round like my hair is on fire. It annoys me seeing how little an idea mates have behind the wheel, they really don't have any mechanical empathy whatsoever for starters. Strangely my 30 year old 2.8 Supra is actually cheaper to insure than the Micra for a year, obviously due to no old Supras being crashed by young drivers. Just shows it doesn't make sense at all.
  3. Brilliant, I love having a laugh in our Ferret too, so easy to drive. The sidewalls on ours aren't great either but remember how thick the sidewall actually is. We ran ours for a whole season and failed to notice the valve had been sucked out the tyre :nut:. Liked your page on Facebook, great stuff. Do you use many of them on the road?
  4. That looks like such good fun, the true meaning of big boys toys! :-D
  5. It was good to meet you again Clive and I have to say, I was thoroughly impressed with the show and museum. Thanks for the leads on the manuals you mentioned in the foyer too, I managed to pick up a Centurion one and dad bought himself an Abbot manual just in case he decides to buy one for real
  6. What a story, shame some people don't have the same sense of respect as us, let alone the enthusiasm. Let's hope the museum can get hold of it before it's vandalised even more. http://www.artificialowl.net/2009/07/abandoned-catalina-seaplane-50-years.html This may also be of interest
  7. Hello Terry is that the site at Monks Wood? Went there a few years back with some mates and there was a pretty sorry looking Chieftain too? Regards, Lewis
  8. Hello mate is this a military only event? Our Ferret is out of action at the moment but I've got a classic car I could bring along. Regards, Lewis
  9. That looks absolutely fantastic, always wanted to see a set up like this, let alone one done this well
  10. Stolly Saladin Chieftain T-55 Kraz 255B FV432 Centurion MBT Fox Scimitar Series III Landy bristling with machine guns :-D
  11. Welcome Pino, We are just down the A1 near Bedford :-)
  12. Hi Stewart, Welcome to the forum, I don't suppose you have seen the Beacon Hill battery in Harwich? It is an amazing place. I can send photos if you wish, just drop me a PM. Regards, Lewis
  13. Hi Andy, We are just across and down the A1 a bit at Sandy in Bedfordshire, might see you at some of the shows this coming season? Regards, Lew
  14. It's already been said but both those Cents, wow! if only
  15. Bang on there Clive, again I found your reply informative and helpful. Sometimes it is all too easy for the owners to bite back. You only have to look at some YouTube videos for endless flaming over subjects due to everyone being 'right'. Occasionally I correct people when looking at our vehicles, particularly the kids that call the Bren a 'Type 99' due to seeing one on Call of Duty!
  16. Wow! Really impressive pictures, it's amazing how much rare kit there is laying around even 60-70 years later
  17. Sorry to deviate from the thread but we had a look round this morning. It would be criminal if someone doesn't snap up those B80 blocks and other Saracen/Saladin bits such as bevel boxes and drive pieces.
  18. Frank Spencer on painting duties
  19. Yes they are not sure if they had any other applications though
  20. Hello chaps, great thread, thanks for starting it Robin. Had a quick look at our J60 tucked in the shed today and took a couple of photos. I don't think this has been mentioned, anyone know what this 'FF' stands for? Regards, Lewis
  21. Had to take the opportunity to go and play in the beast this morning!
  22. I would definitely recommend using an additive, we've always used Castrol Valvemaster in ours and never had any problems
