  1. Hi all, If you watch this video: http://www.bbc.co.uk/mediaselector/check/england/realmedia/lookeast/norwich/lookeast?size=16x9&bgc=C0C0C0&nbram=1&bbram=1&nbwm=1&bbwm=1 At about 19 minutes in and onwards, you will see an article on our Ferret. At last my dad and the Ferret are famous! Unfortunately I was at bloody school so I missed out on the action. Anyway I hope the video works, and I hope you enjoy it. Best regards, Lewis
  2. If not all i'll do is make up a tool on the grinder. A better tool, and bigger stilsons! At the mo i've been trying to use a ground down chisel, but there's just a little bit too much movement in the slot. I'd rather be safe than sorry if you see what I mean? After all that brass plug looks fairly soft anyway!
  3. It's the long slot :-D fingers crossed i'll find one!
  4. Hi all. I'm having trouble getting the rear diff drain plug undone on my Series III Landy. I wondered if anyone has the correct tool for the job or know of where I can buy one? I tried my own tool (a grinded down chisel+stilsons!) but this hasn't worked! I would try the Landy forums but I tend to find them a bit ignorant and unhelpful most of the time! :-D Best regards, Lewis.
  5. She may not be military but this has been my introduction to vintage vehicles. She's green, so we're not too far away! :-D I'm hoping when the time comes the Ferret will simply be passed down to me, so I won't be digging into my own pocket for an MV!!:yay: Best regards, Lewis.
  6. Very, very nice! It's a dream for me to go to an aircraft graveyard! Best regards, Lewis
  7. I know they can be a pain to work on, but they certainly have a lot of advantages over a Landy. Look at the suspension on a Champ, look at the suspension on a Landy? That says it all really!
  8. Nice! They certainly are a very nice bit of kit! I think my dream of taking to the skies in a Mosquito is a long way off! You're a lucky man Mark! I should think the noise was something to marvel at as well? :-D
  9. Hi all, I just wanted to ask everyone really, what are their experiences with military aircraft? I think the closest i've come is a de Havilland Dragon Rapide, the civvy version of DH89 Dominie. A lovely experience, even better it being at Duxford! Apart from that the only flying I get in is with microlights, GREAT fun. Maybe stick a couple of Vickers guns on the side and have a dogfight? Best regards, Lewis.
  10. This should be very interesting! We almost bought a Striker recently in need of restoration, lovely bit of kit. I know dad regrets not buying it, but we were on the verge of a house move.... So to say the least that made things all the more difficult. I wish you the best of luck, looks like you'll need it! Regards
  11. I think good old Bovvy has to be my favourite, even though it focuses on one main aspect. Their displays outside can be quite impressive, and if I remember rightly you can have a ride in two vehicles. One being one of those tracked Lance carrier type vehicles, good fun! Of course, it's always impressive to see the Tiger as well! Best regards
  12. Haha bloody hell Jack I remember packaging that canvas up with him in the shed! Got those rules bang on I think, i'll try my best not to poke fun at the Jeep owners. Seen as there's so many of them about I think i'd be eaten alive?:-D The old Ferret remains one of my all time favourites so no worries there. She's hardly been used recently, bugger that in this weather! Anyway thanks for the welcome. I have to admit I don't own an MV myself yet. I've been told the Ferret will be passed down when the insurance will allow! Then again about two years ago I entered into the world of classic vehicles with a 1975 local farm Landy. Series III so she just misses the tax exemption, but she's still a straight example and I managed to get her for a darn good price. All the ones i'd been casually interested in were all rotboxes, and then this one turned up, and I just had to have it. Of course at the time I treated her as an investment.... but then like you do, you become attached to it! I'll be devastated when she's sold! Who knows, maybe when the right time comes i'll buy an old FFR series or something. Thing is at this time it's quite hard to support all the hobbies. It's always a case of sorting out the luxuries and what I actually need, and a Landy doing 18 or so to the gallon isn't really practical as a first car. I'm not conforming to a piece of plastic rubbish, maybe an old Viva or something will eventually do? Only two years to wait now before i'm allowed out on the roads! (Be very afraid). Imagine how bad it'll be when i'm put in command of the Ferret, good job we don't own a 432 or something! :cool2: Anyway it's good to be here, best wishes to all, Lew
  13. Hi all, I'm Lewis, you might remember my dad Mick. Been quite a while since I last looked at HMVF so I thought i'd sign up and get my own account, and with a bit of luck come on here a tad more often! How is everyone's winter projects coming along? I find it too cold to be fiddling around in the shed recently! :-( Best regards, Lew
