  1. Dear Pavel, Thank you for the answers, great ones, don't put yourself down, I like your methodology as I know you work on your own. Did you separate the ring from the hull and lift that with the turret or did you split it above that? Do you think damage can occur if you leave the backet in place and just lift the turret? 2 tons is kind of where I was heading
  2. Can anyone give me a roughly accurate weight of the turret? I realise we do not have the main armament in ours so it will be lighter but we are planning on removing the turret and I would like to have heavy enough lifting tackle/ Is there a cheat method of taking it off that makes it easier? What about the commutator ring at the bottom, any advice? If there is a specific manual that covers this a manual number would be good to go buy one. thanks in advance
  3. Surveyor, sorry for trying to help, but in some cases just because there is a standard there might also be an alternative that is more affordable and more readily available. Anyway, cheers mate, good luck.
  4. Could I ask yous Sir where in the world you live and wonder if you could edit your profile so that detail shows onthe top right of your posts. No point me telling you what the NAPA paint code is if you don't live in my neck of the woods See what I mean? meant in the best possible taste, no offence intended or desired
  5. I have had two fairly naff reports but seeing as how they are free I cant complain, there are humans involved in the admin chain so therein lies the problem I suspect. I cant ask for a refund so I am going to bide my time and re submit in a year or so and hope they come up with a different response.
  6. Welcome from Canada gawd only knows how you came up with your nickname or to what it refers. Please say Howdy to Mitchell and let him know I never received an email back from him.
  7. Thank you for posting Diana, You could have chased that for ages and never found it. Good to know, will store that in the knowledge bank
  8. Richard, Before our Fox was consigned to the "needs a rebuild" shed we were having some issues similar to this, our mechanic friend was over and you just described the burping we experienced. Funnily he said the same thing, "needs a bigger resevoir". Then we ran into a massive safety issue with the fuel system that took our breath away and it was shunted off to be a winter project.
  9. "Rare, as used by the SAS but don't tell anyone"
  10. Dear Tim, Cracking job there on the rebuild, I understand why you were anxious. A couple of questions, are the rear lights a modern adaptation and were many mk1/1 in Australian service?
  11. Thank you all for the replies, loads of info there for me to digest. I am amazed that the hooks do not have some kind of positive lock mechanism to hold them against the links of the chain, that still boggles my mind. As Ruxy pointed out I am going to recreate a helo lift but the MSP info is valuable for others I am sure. So far nothing about the chain to cable transition or cable to master link.
  12. I am looking for very specific details so I ca as near as possible recreate proper lifting gear From what I can see there was a chain with a hook that grabbed back onto the chain at the vehicle end, how did that hook stay locked on? How long was the chain portion, what was the chain size, what is the hook design? At some point the chain transitions to what looks like a poly covered wire, how does the changes take place? How does the wire terminate and onto what? Please and many many thank yous to anyone who can help.
  13. Sirhc, thanks for the explanation, makes perfect sense now. Sounds almost like someone is winding down and shedding a personal collection . . . .
  14. why if it has been at Withams is it being sold by Bonhams?
  15. We are currently in the process of sympathetically plumbing in an alternate fuel supply after having decommissioned the tank in a ferret at work. We have some very neat fittings and it is all 100 per cent reversible should that be needed. The collection of vehicles we look after as part of our work has had fuel issues for a while that started with the methanol issue, since corrected, the other was lack of use. Our direction is a simple quick coupling and a vented jerry can mounted on the rear left fender. Going forward the petrol CVR(T) fleet will get the same treatment. Once we get it all done we will document it all here.
  16. 10 FM 68 Thanks for engaging and answering, that is very useful to the gent whose vehicle it is and to the rest of us who need to be educated
  17. Anyone knowing his whereabouts please ask him to contact me asap Thanks
  18. I am not very good with computers and capturing screen shots but there is a CVR(T) on the road doing driver training in google street view around the camp at Bovington. I will see if I can find it again.
  19. Welcome along and have fun here, hope there is plenty for you to enjoy.
  20. A Ferret bearing the call sign T 29 C in the 1970s would be what role? Directing staff or player?
  21. Des anyone know where this Ferret ended up or who owns it? It is alleged to have been a hard target on a UK range.
  22. Are you asking for someone who will for a small yearly fee provide you with recovery for tracked vehicles in case you breakdown? Is that really your question?
  23. Ferret work solo is four times as hard as having fitter A and fitter B as per the book. There are some cheats, you can do it from underneath but you had better be double jointed nearly. Pulling the tank forward is a pain especially if you still use it and haven't switched to a separate fuel source as we are doing. Honestly, take the opportunity to address a number of issues at the same time and do the best job you can. The fuel pump is a robust little unit and works well if used often and is fed good fuel.
  24. There have been some interesting exchanges with a Belgian chap on this facebook group who has come up with some answers for others https://www.facebook.com/groups/156384151187384/
