  1. Well I'm glad that one works Wayne, but it's a little high in output. Have you got the EMERs covering adjustments?
  2. Yes it did sell eventually. It was for sale for some ridiculous amount, I think something like £16,000. I just hope the current owner has made a start on removing the rubbish from it. If not at least remove the RAC & Union Flag stickers so we don't get the blame
  3. In fairness to Sainsburys it is only right at the end you realise there is some commercialisation of history, well it is a "commercial" after all. But during both World Wars companies supplying goods of their various kinds for the war effort were very ready to exploit the conflicts to promote sales of their own products. It makes this Sainsburys promotion seem quite discrete.
  4. If you were nearer Jules I could test them with a Megger at their rated voltage & confirm their properties with a capacitance meter. But if you are worried about them, just disconnect them if they were added for RF suppression, the regulator will still function without them.
  5. Super picture of the S51, many thanks for sharing.
  6. What you really need is the FVRDE Secification. I have about 150 of these but few cover AFVs, those that I have found refer to the Constructional Specification where I think you will find what you need. Whether it will quote a Standard is another thing. For current designs there is a clue in DEF STAN 23-7 Design Guidelines for Armoured Fighting Vehicles chapter 14. Here it quotes Specifications that may be quoted in a design based on various levels of protection defined in a STANAG. STANAG 4569 Annex A - KE threats Annex B - Landmines If you google the STANAG you will find the various levels of protection. I do have FVRDE Specs for FV420 & FV426, I can't currently find them. But I don't know how similar the degree protection was compared with the FV430 series.
  7. It looks as is someone has already done it. I would keep the screened cable system around the coil & to the distributor as the integral connectors are far better than anything one rig up to replace it. It looks as if it needs a bit of TLC, I would replace the distributor capacitor as that will be suspect. But use any 0.2mfd distributor capacitor from a Series 2 or 3. Don't waste money on an expensive 24v one,
  8. Rather sad outcome particularly as they had gone to the trouble to provide a named plinth.
  9. I took the picture in 2008 it was in a bit of sorry state then.
  10. Is this one at Allenby Barracks still there?
  11. I'm very sorry to hear that, Mike was very helpful & welcoming to me in my early days in the hobby (particularly when owning a post-war vehicle was frowned on in many quarters). He seemed to be the only source of paint of its various kinds for MVs in those days. I believe the first six Ferrets on the show scene here were as a result of Mike importing them from the Hong Kong Police. In those days you could not buy ex-MOD armour, even if it was of British construction the end user had to be a service other than the MOD. Of several bits of advice he gave me the follow sticks in my mind. I was discussing with Mike the in & outs of converting my Shorland into a Vigilant ATGW version as no such example of the that variant were known to exist. Mike was astonished that I would be prepared to "destroy the history" of the vehicle, which was unique & very real. Of course I ignored him & proceeded with a lot of effort to reproduce the vehicle of my dreams. Some years later I realised the advice I had been given was correct, so in the end I expended even more effort in putting it all back into its authentic configuration. I should have taken your advice Mike.
  12. The facility already exists. Go into "My Profile" at top of page. Then on the left there is "Find latests posts" & "Find latest started threads" I find this very useful as I often reply to something I see in "Today's posts" but don't necessarily realise what section it is in. Without the "My profile" facility it does get very difficult wading through the sections to find that post one made.
  13. PM sent Doug remember that the gearbox is SAE30 as well as the engine.
  14. Sean I think that is probably the answer. Don't go to any trouble going through them all.
  15. Sean out of interest have any of these been painted? I used to have a pile of them & some where painted red or yellow. Someone once told me that is was to remind the driver whether to fill up with petrol or diesel. He had no answer when I showed the ones that were painted blue!
  16. Having spent £40million on the improvements they now plan £4million cuts that includes the library, some of the collection & perhaps 80 jobs. There is a petition against this. https://www.change.org/p/rt-hon-george-osborne-mp-urgently-reverse-current-and-future-cuts-to-the-uk-imperial-war-museum-s-annual-operating-grant-in-aid-so-that-it-can-maintain-services-and-preserve-its-standing-as-an-international-centre-for-study-research-and-education
  17. 2013 is only going to be the date of registration with DVLA & bear in mind that odometer reading will be in km not miles.
  18. Nick the instructions are in EMER WHEELED VEHICLES V 617 Mod Instr No 64 There are a lot of line drawings but there are few measurements. The instructions relate mainly to modifications & fixing brackets for the Plate, front deflector FV344159 it assumes of course you have the complete kit LV9/AAD/MOD 20533/1 I can scan front, top, side views etc there are only measurements for the location of supporting bosses to be welded.
  19. Well even a "dressed up" civilian Land Rover won best Post-War Military Vehicle at the Kemble National Show one year.
  20. Whatever it is or isn't it's one hell of a price to pay for a 90. Nice paint job but rather meaningless if we don't get to see the engine or under the chassis
