  1. Sean I think that you will find LV7/AN is Austin LV7/ML is BMC, Morris & Wolsley Bear in mind that is only for VAOS Section LV7 but in the broader coverage LV6/MT1 - LV6/MT15 BMC is British Motor Corporation I'm not familiar with LV7/BLC, there is LV7/LD for Leyland. But things can change & morph into each other. I have been taken to task for getting some of the types of tanks 'wrong' in the LV1 Sections but it depends on the time period. There were specific tanks quoted in VAOS with a particular part code that were used on later tanks which fulfilled the same role as the earlier obsolete tanks. Do you have a label with LV7/BLC with a particular date? Bear in mind that BLC did exist but for use in LV9/BLC for standardised Light Car 4x4 ie Champ
  2. That's a jolly good summary Ian, although the first paragraph "The Army now classifies vehicles into 5 categories" is a little dated. By 1997 D had gone & allocated as "Spare" but there were also these Asset Type Codes: E-vehicle Truck mounted or trailer mounted equipment or static generator P-vehicle Powered, mobile, materiel handling equipment used in warehouse or industrial environment including tractor, trailer or hand pallet truck. R-equipment Engineer or construction plant or ancillary which is neither C nor E vehicle Z-equipment Transportable container By 2003 Asset Type Codes were just a letter with a few additional classes L Chassis cabs stored in Army depots pending fitting of bodies or special equipment It had expanded further to include items over than vehicles that needed to be tracked for management or legal purposes M, S, U, W, Y. Well that is more than 10 years ago, maybe those who work in the supply chain could update things further for us.
  3. I see what you mean Richard, Thompson did the steering bit of AP not Lockhead.
  4. VAOS Sections LV6/MT1 - LV6/MT15 use the identifiers AU/LK Automotive Products Co. Ltd. TH British Thompson-Houston Ltd. Incidentally all the Lockhead part numbers for ball joints on Humber 1 Ton are prefixed by 'J'
  5. Spot on Richard, this was actually the company that made new hoses for Pigs in N.I. I remembered the location but couldn't find where I had written the name. In fact Dale cleaned them out of their remaining stock :-( But they would certainly be your best bet.
  6. LV9/BOE/FV174998 - non-armoured LV9/BOE/FV228518 - armoured, to be more specific Pig & prototype Hornet, production Hornet had front exit exhaust
  7. Yes mine's been getting shorter over the years, but 2 ft is a lot to lose :red: I have seen flexible used but it doesn't look very nice. Perhaps get some thick stout wire/cable so that you can simulate the shape & distance of the required pipe. Measure the ID of silencer outlet then with callipers look for pipe that has that OD. Try looking through Rover bits first & maybe when you get any visitors ask to look at their tail pipes & see if there are any that might be cut down. So you can go to an exhaust place armed with a make, model & year. Then tell us all please.
  8. Never found a usable genuine rear pipe. Always had to bodge. There must suitable replacements out there, the trouble is one can no longer rummage looking for likely matches or at least adaptable ones in exhaust fitting shops. They can only cope with the model & year of the car = Brick wall :banghead: Nor can one be escorted around the stock room to look for likely items. When I first replaced the Hornet exhaust I had to use bits from a Citroen car & a Midivan. That actually was more complex but that was in the days I could rummage through stock.
  9. Whilst you have that Y piece off go round the edge of the circular mating surface with a round stone & get it really smooth. Also with a flat stone this time get the down pipe surface equally smooth. I smother the mating surfaces with copper grease that allows effective snuggling in & the residue I hope helps burn itself in enhancing the seal. I don't have great confidence it exhaust pastes. I have found it best to loosen up the rest of the exhaust system & then tighten the Y piece to down pipe as priority & then tighten up down the system. Otherwise you maybe perpetuate an established misalignment or a replacement component that is very slightly different. You have a hardly used down-pipe in the trailer. I know you have various take-off silencers from Dale. I may soon have a reasonable take-off from my Pig. It has a series of little holes along the base due rust from condensation. I'm not sure whether I will repair those but with the various jobs piling up I may have to fit my only remaining NOS silencer.
  10. I took this to be a confirmation: But anyway you will need several sets in reserve. Not because they fail but other maintenance in the exhaust system may require their replacement. BTW that manifold in the picture will be different from yours
  11. What you've bought them? You wouldn't have had to pay postage on mine :undecided:
  12. Sure about that? Be very wary of the front one under the radiator, this can only be assessed by dropping your belly plate if you'll pardon the expression.
  13. These will do: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2-Copper-Exhaust-Gaskets-Standard-Vanguard-/291305777283?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item43d32d6883 Hole centres differ slightly but as they are larger, studs go through fine. You just need to trim the overlap (observing due safety precautions)
  14. They look very nice Wayne & look newly manufactured from a trusted supplier (Marcus Glenn) But they are not the same as Humber I'm afraid The Ferret ISPL just gives the NSNs but not the Lockhead numbers & as you have found your Humber ISPL just has the VAOS-Lockhead number. The latest Ferret ISPL was published in 1969 after the implementation of NATO Codification, your Humber ISPL was published before this in 1960. However the Hornet ISPL although pre-dating full codification (which was a slow rolling process) was published in 1962 & contains many NSNs that were uncodified in 1960. You really need to get a copy of WO Code No.13606......................may be able to help there :-D
  15. I notice in previous years KGM underwrote the Premium Choice policy but they've swapped the underwriters to LV= as premium have greatly increased apparently. I found the policy details less easy to understand with this new lot.
  16. I've just renewed the MVs with Premium Choice they seem helpful & you do get printed documentation through the post. Also renewed car & lorry with Adrian Flux they like to send everything electronically & don't always make the changes that you agreed. They play loud adverts for their range of insurance products whilst you hang on between options or put on hold, very irritating.
  17. Yes & perhaps it's part of the BARBAS scheme that gives it a civilian registration but also has a (non-displayed) ERM for Asset tracking purposes?
  18. Take it off, clamp it cautiously in the vice, drill holes in studs as large as you can without damaging the thread in readiness for extractor tool of the largest size that will engage. Heat up one stud & surrounds to cherry red. Wearing leather gloves dive in quickly with the extractor tool. Don't expect to undo in one go just be grateful to get a bit of small movement each time.
  19. One seller I contacted recently said he realised it didn't fit two of the vehicles mentioned but he included as many vehicles as he could in the title to increase visits to the page. Later he did actually amend the heading. There is a Ferret dipstick currently advertised as also fitting a Humber 1 Ton as they "both have B60 engines" :nut: I have had no response to my observation that the sumps are entirely different & said dipstick is far too long, lacks a shroud & has no knob on the end. But these misleading descriptions can work to the advantage of the shrewd shopper who recognises what they really fit.:-)
  20. I've just looked at your chassis Wayne, you have 4 good bump stop rubbers (ie the top ones). There are only 2 rebound rubbers, I can't assess these as they are presently doing what they are intended to do. At least you have 4 good uns coming. I've had a chatty reply from the seller & pointed him to this thread. It was he who visited me & it was his FV1601 sold earlier in the year.
  21. I looked at all mine this morning but just checked in the stores & I do have spare. But I have to admit a brown carton with a VAOS label LV9/BOE is indeed a temptation.
  22. This is where them rubber things go:
