see if the leak is from the seam, is it is proberly because the needle used was slightly to big,the needle punches a hole that is bigger than the thead used...the problem dilemma is use 100% cotton thead that swells to fill the hole or use more modern theads that is more man made and does not swell so much....there is the BUT..cotton will rot 100 times faster than man made, and therefor the life of the canvas is in question...hope this explains...Cliff

I think you will find that as the fibers swell it will get better and eventually be waterproof. Unless its a bad batch of canvas of course.

Hi Jim thanks for the concern.

After the first couple of times it has rained since I put it on, it has got steadily more and more water tight, to the point at which now even with the latest torrential down pours it does not leak one little bit.

Us old 'uns didn't get where we are today without knowing about keeping dry................. :coffee::whistle:

Back in the days before W. Gore developed the answer to outdoor peoples prayers. The old wax jacket and the yellow Norwegian smocks. Trouble with those smocks was they kept the rain out, but you got soacked in condensation.

Ah, but don't forget Cotton Ventile clothing,.......great kit, silent, ie, no russle, warm and wind/weatherproof,.........also waxed cotton motorcycle kit,...............once dried after getting soaked, it'd stand up on its own.
