Vulcan XL426

I think that falls into the aeronautical porn category. A fantastic sight that can only be really appreciated by seeing it live.

I saw one take off at Biggin. I think it was the last year they flew it before it was grounded. It took off near vertical and we saw what looked like sheets of cardboard blowing up behind it as it took off. We later learned that it had literally blown sections of the tarmac off the runway. Now that's what you call raw power.

Just a little off the subject......... does anyone know if there are any Buccaneers still flying. They too were a great looking and very destictive aircraft. I haven't seen one for years. :)

buccs fly in South Africa, know what you mean about raw power of the vulcan, I was at the late lamented Great Warbirds airshow one year, part of the vulcan display was a touch and go, in she came, went to full power on touchdown, and promptly set off all the car alarms in the car park :-D

I bet that raised a few cheers from the crowd.

The loudest aircraft I've ever seen was the Saab Scania Viggen at Farnborough in about 78-80. It took off on full afterburners and nearly shook everything to pieces/ Made the hair on my neck stand on end though............ ' kin great stuff. :-D
