Jack
I asked Don Burgett (Able Co 101st Airborne) for clarification last week on when then left Aldbourne for the Marshalling area at Upottery, Devon. According to my records the 101st Abn. left for the Marshalling area "Upottery Field," 29 May 1944. We were briefed at least twice a day until 3 June 1944. 4 June 1944 we marched on foot in a downpour of rain and heavy winds to our parked aircraft; attempted to get ready, had our weapons and chutes on, some men aboard the aircraft, a jeep arrived with orders that the jump had been postponed due to severe adverse weather. 5 June 1944 the weather was sunny and warm all day, very little wind, we marched on foot to the parked aircraft, later PM chuted up with weapons and all. We loaded on board and took off between 10:00 and 11:00 PM (British summer double daylight saving time) just getting dark, to make history.
