trevor pitman Posted March 16, 2009 Posted March 16, 2009 I have 2 military regs - 47FV15 and 47AV33. Is there any way a date of issue and vehicle type can be found out? I think they were issued to FWD su-coes - but is that Army or RAF? Any pointers welcome Quote
sirhc Posted March 16, 2009 Posted March 16, 2009 AV is RAF radio vehicles, FV is army engineers equipment. Quote
Richard Farrant Posted March 17, 2009 Posted March 17, 2009 AV is RAF radio vehicles, AV was used on lorries / trucks. Looking at Ruddington auction catalogues, there are Matadors, Hippos and Bedford RL's, all with AV numbers. Quote
sirhc Posted March 17, 2009 Posted March 17, 2009 Ok Richard, I just took that from a list I had. Quote
trevor pitman Posted March 17, 2009 Author Posted March 17, 2009 Thanks for the info.....typing error...they are both `AV` Quote
les freathy Posted March 17, 2009 Posted March 17, 2009 Trevor the AV RAF numbers could have been used on FWDs post war used as generator trucks for mobile radar units Quote
trevor pitman Posted March 17, 2009 Author Posted March 17, 2009 Les, that makes more sense as the info I have is that they did not make it on to the civil reg system till 1958 Quote
Simon Daymond Posted March 19, 2009 Posted March 19, 2009 sorry to hi-jack your post, what does BM stand for? Quote
fv1609 Posted March 19, 2009 Posted March 19, 2009 sorry to hi-jack your post, what does BM stand for? BM circa 1953-4 for 'B' Vehicles. Included some Brockhouse trailers, Tecalmit-Sentinel trailers, Militants, Macks, RLs, Leyland FV1100 series, Albions, Super Snipes, Vanguards & even some White half-tracks. Quote
Adrian Posted March 21, 2009 Posted March 21, 2009 AV was used on lorries / trucks. Looking at Ruddington auction catalogues, there are Matadors, Hippos and Bedford RL's, all with AV numbers. Hi Richard, I have found the registration number of the Diamond T 981 which my father drove, it is 24 YZ 65. Does this feature in any of the auction catalogues? It was last rebuilt in 1953 so it is purely an assumption but I think we would be looking at late fifties for disposal. Quote

Hi Adrian, The Ruddington catalogues I have are from the 1970's, no Diamond T's in there, although a lone Mack "tractor (LHD) with recovery hoop and winch 6x6", which I would think was probably a NO2, ex-Royal Navy 12RN14, sold in 1974 Quote
fv1609 Posted March 21, 2009 Posted March 21, 2009 Flicking through a 1957 catalogue, quite a few ex-RAF Matadors going for as much as £750, Jeeps £60, AEC ACVs for £270 & 10-cwt trailers £170 for a dozen. Also a half-track "with radar equipment" withdrawn from sale. Quote
