Lauren Child Posted January 24, 2009 Posted January 24, 2009 Is that another TSR2? I thought only one survived the scrap yard? One of my friends is the son of the scrap dealer that recycled them. Blimey. Quote
antarmike Posted January 24, 2009 Posted January 24, 2009 (edited) The only TSR2 to fly wasn't broken up by scrapmen. XR219, was taken to Shoeburyness and used as a target to test the vulnerability of a modern airframe and systems to gunfire The other two airframes to be completed were saved one at IWM one at Cosford. The only TSR2's broken up were incomplete airframes that were being assembled as a result of the 1957 defence white paper. Edited November 9, 2009 by antarmike Quote
schliesser92 Posted November 9, 2009 Posted November 9, 2009 Was it the 1957 Defence White Paper ? - I thought that the TSR-2 debacle was under the Man With The Gannex - and he didn't come in as PM until 1964! Quote

Cancellation was announced on 6th April 1965. Quote
schliesser92 Posted November 19, 2009 Posted November 19, 2009 Sorry, misread your post - I thought that you were referring the disassembly of the TSR-2s with the Defence White Paper. I still think that the TSR-2 was the best strike aircraft the RAF never had!, Quote
