Davie Posted January 7, 2009 Posted January 7, 2009 Whilst rewiring a cottage today, I removed a piece of plasterboard and found, sitting on the wallhead, what I think is a naval plaque from HMS Jupiter. There is lots to be read on HMS Jupiter, but I cannot find any information as what or who is a Gunner's Golly. Anyone any ideas? I also found last year, in the same cottage, two bottles of Pussers rum, also hidden in a wall. Very strong stuff, 54.5% ABV, but not much left now! Hogmanay saw to that. Pussers was the rum issued to sailors in the form of a daily tot for centuries, until about 1970, when it was discontinued. http://www.pussers.com/ http://www.hmsjupiter.co.uk/?page_id=3 Davie Quote
Davie Posted January 7, 2009 Author Posted January 7, 2009 Just noticed the dates in the pics, I think the kids have been meddling with the camera. Quote
BIGREDONE Posted January 7, 2009 Posted January 7, 2009 Hi, Just a bit of info. As you most likely know that is not the official Jupiter’s badge. That looks like an unofficial 3E gunners mess trophy. Golly was the term for electronic warfare ratings if I remember correctly. I think the Jupiter Association would be very interested in hearing about this find. http://www.hmsjupiter.co.uk/ Sorry not much to go on. Best wishes Paul Quote
Davie Posted January 8, 2009 Author Posted January 8, 2009 Thanks for that info Paul, I have sent an email to the chairman of the Jupiter association. Have you any idea what the 3E means? Davie. Quote
