Since I made no progress with the flywheel I decided to clean and paint the clutch housing.

Before:

The first paintjob wasn't to my liking, the paint I got wasn't silver-gray but silver. :red:

So I repainted it with a darker gray:

Now I'm busy washing the bolts, nuts and washers!

Yesterday we reunited the clutch, gearbox and engine and tomorrow we'll lift the whole thing back into the Dodge!

Putting the clutch back on the engine:

Better together, clutch, engine and gearbox reunited once again!

  • 2 weeks later...

It's been a while since my last update but I have not been idle!

On the 31st we drained the oil from the gearbox and checked the condition (which is excellent, even with all my crunching!)

And then winched the engine up and put it back in the Dodge!

Back where it belongs:

Since then it's the tedious job of reconnecting everything.

Things done so far:

- Brake pedal

- Clutch pedal

- Handbrake and 4 or 2 wheel drive selector

- Power take off

- Starter motor

- Water pump & Fan

- Fuel pump

- Connectors to dashboard

Still a lot to do though:

- Oil pressure tube

- Generator

- Carburetor

- Floorboards in cab

- Water system for the gas-condenser.

- Radiator

- Re-assemble the engine compartment

- Probably more stuff which I can't remember at the moment..

Since various components were out of the cab I thought it a good idea to paint them:

Onwards and upwards! :wow:

It's **** awkward to get at the master cylinder. Always worth putting anti seze such as copper grease on all those hard to reach nuts and bolts. Murphy's Law says that one of them will be the next you need to take off. Especially the floor pan and dust gaurd ones!

  • 6 months later...

Well it seems I never updated this blog, we took our time but eventually in the last week of September we got the Dodge running again!

Today, however, i replaced the waterpump and the thermostat which were both not working as they should. Still some small things to fix, headlight switch and brake lights are two that spring to my mind but we are getting there!

Consider upgrading the side and indicator lights to LED. You can get direct replacements and a flasher for the indicators off the shelf, plug and go. I had to modify the sidelights but have put all the info the lighting saftey thread, wasn't difficut (Or I couldn't have done it!:D ) Are you still using the floor switch for the dip/main beam?
