da bomb
I am presently having problems stopping, and once stopped, pulling away! The brake system seems to be acting one way, it pressurises up when the pedal is pushed and stays that way, with the brakes on, the only way to get them to back off is to let fluid out via one of the many bleed nipples! We have bled the vacuum servo and wheel cylinders and still have the same problem, i think it may be the master cylinder, although can't work out why it would only work one way and not allow the system to back off. We have checked all of the vacuum connections for leaks etc. Anybody else had a similar problem, or can give me a pointer about the bleeding sequence etc? sirhc
Adam, Yes we had this problem on the Fox. It was due to a knackered servo. You can get replacements quite easily, so I'd change it if I were you and see what difference that makes. Chris
da bomb
If it is the servo, any ideas where you get them and roughly how much?
sirhc
They are fairly standard, you could try a local truck brake specialist. We have one near here who can get seal kits & replacement parts for pretty much anything. Otherwise you can try Marcus Glenn, Richard Banister etc. I've bought new ones for as little as £40, but seen them advertised for as much as £150. Tony B
Have you checked the flexible brake pipes? these can fray internally and the lining act as a valve.
da bomb
I have had a vehicle where the pipe internally collapsed and acted like a valve, however the whole system is pressurised on, and it is a copper pipe from the master cylinder to the vacuum servo, so no luck there!! Tony B
Is the Pig servo similar to the Ferret servo, if so I might know of one just unearthed.
fv1609
Is the Pig servo similar to the Ferret servo, Pretty sure it is. The part number is: in FVRDE = FV17528 in VAOS = LV6/MT9/AU/LK/72072 in COSA = 6/MT9/2530-99-836-7809 I know of a source of reasonably priced ones. But first some diagnostics. When you depress the brake pedal, does it stay down or return? When you lie underneath the drivers side & look up at the master cylinder, can you move the main brake rod an inch or so. There should only be a mm or so of free play. So is the master cylinder jammed on?
da bomb
The pedal returns back up, apart from when its "Pressurised" when it is just solid. When we bled it, the pedal returned slowly, which i guess is the fluid been replaced in the master cylinder and the spring returning, pretty much the same whether engine running or not. I will go and check the play in the rod later!
Tony B
If the master is gone, give pastparts a call. the cost of rebuild may be better than buying new. I'll check what that servo is, it turned up after a yard clean on Sunday along with the pigeon i'd been looking for.

Just checked, and it appears that the Ferret vacuum servo is exactly the same as mine on the Pig, so i may be interested, so long as said pigeon hasn't decomposed over it!!
