N.O.S.
Trench Map Team - I've just looked on Western Front Association website at the trench map service. Most of their maps are black and white copies, they advise that the 1/10,000 (6" to the mile) and 1/20,000 (3") contain so much detail that the trenchlines and ditches (red and blue on originals) are difficult to distinguish. There are also some at 1/5,000. So may be better to download copies of the originals? If someone sends me the files I could get them printed out full size in colour by our business printer and post to whoever needs them? Rick was the map you posted the Richebourg 36.sw3 one? And you want to see others surrounding it? And what about david ives's ref for Beugny, map no. 57c nw4 - is that located yet? How about I try to get a contact no. from the WFA area chairman for their map specialist, you could then talk to each other :dunno:
N.O.S.
The WFA site contains an index of trench map lists, see http://www.westernfrontassociation.com/thegreatwar/articles/mappingthefront/indexmaps There's an index to 1/10,000 trench maps and also modern maps with the trench map grid superimposed with relief, which is just what you need? I can't work out how to view the lists I think you might have to join the association to view these pages :dunno:
Rick W
The Ferme Du Bois/Richebourg map I cant find a reference number , or sheet number for. The N.A. reference number just says " Ferme Du Bois Lines:Fld Svy Co. RE5484". Im assuming the map to the right would give more a picture of NoMans Land and the German lines. Will have a look at the WFA website later hopefully.
N.O.S.
I was having a job pinning down these places, so in case anyone else is not clear, here is a map of the Allied advance Aug 8th to Sep 8th 1918, showing - FAVREUIL (in BLUE), where Jackson was wounded in Feb 1917, and BEUGNY (in RED), where he died in Sep 1918
Joris
Here it is, Pvt Jacksons last restingplace. The flowers you see I have bought on behalf of HMVF and placed at his grave. More will follow tomorrow, I'm too knackered...

Rick W
You are a total star Joris. Thank you! And thank you for the photos. I know it sounds a bit wierd but that has bought a connection a little bit closer to someone, up until a few weeks ago, never knew existed, and now, for a bizarre set of circumstances, seem to know better than some members of my family. :rtfm:

Joris
Thanks lads, it really was my pleasure. I'm not a very emotional guy but when I placed the flowers on his grave tears were welling up and I had a huge lump in my throught. Buying the flowers was interesting though, the lady thought I finally bought my wife some flowers so she was giftwrapping it (or she asked and I did not understood). When I saw what she was doing I said in my best french that they were for the cemetery and she then looked very stupid  Some more pictures of the cemetery:

Snapper
Great stuff Joris. It must have added a sense of purpose to your trip to the area. The cemetery looks as good as I remember it. These little ones are always the best.
Snapper
No funnily enough. I think I will need to see about joining. Addictive this sort of thing. :dunno: My mate John enrolled me for a birthday present this year. I've only managed to get to a few meetings at the superb Southend branch which meets at the RNA club near Roots Hall football ground. The guest speakers all give excellent talks and the devotion to the subject is remarkable. There is one elderly chap at our branch who is slowly building a database of the Royal Naval Division and what he doesn't know about them doesn't matter. As with all organisations you see the odd soul you don't want to be cornered by - but it appears to me that the WFA is a warm place to be. N.O.S.
My mate John enrolled me for a birthday present this year. I've caught one! In which case, would it be possible for you to see if the WFA website allows you as a member to access the listed INDEX OF TRENCH MAPS? and Trench Maps suerimposed on modern map? This could help save Rick and Tony B a great deal of time and effort. Thanks!

Just had a look at the WFA web site, £22 a year and there is one about 2 miles up the road. Sounds worth it.

This could help save Rick and Tony B a great deal of time and effort. Thanks! Yes it would! Looking at the list from WFA, there is 2 map areas which could be of interest. Bapaume 4th July 1918, ref 157125, area 57c NW3. And Beugny 4th July 1918, ref 157135, area 57c NW4. But again without seeing what the overall areas which are covered by the maps, its very hit and miss unless the areas are quoted in the diaries. Interestingly though, both those areas show the german trench positions which would have been the subject of then raids.

Can anyone tell me how to get a screen print off a dvd. i can post the panorama of the area. As this is educational and academic research provided the scource is acknowledged, no copyright problems. Been checking up.
