German costal defence bunkers near IJmuiden, Netherlands

Recommended Posts

Three weeks ago I was in IJmuiden for a day out with the company and in the dunes there was a German gun battery. Here are the pictures.

1. Overview of the gun battery, 4 gun emplacement bunkers and one fire guidance bunker (hard to see on this picture).

2. 1st gun battery bunker, bricked up but you are still able to climb in.

3. Ammunition bunker at the rear of the gun bunker.

4. Rear of the second gun bunker and a view of the fire guidance bunker.

5. The fire guidance bunker

6. 3rd gun battery bunker, what you can't see on this picture is that the bunker is virtually intact. It still has all the iron in it to secure the gun and the camo nets. You don't see that in Normandy!.

7. AA platform, again the bolts are still there!

8. 4th gun bunker, here you see that the bolts and the rings are still there.

9. Ammo bunker

10. Command and control bunker, this huge bunker stretches from the just beyond where I took this picture to the other AA opening halfway up the picture.

Also there were some "Tobruk" bunker of which I did not take any pictures.

1. Another overview of a part of the bunker system

2, 3 and 4. A few hundred meter behind it was a U-Boat station, only one of the bunkers (the grey mass behind the blue cylinders) remain but they are MASSIVE!!!
