Jessie The Jeep
As some of you will know, I have a strong interest in aviation, so when I came across some pictures of an Autogyro ( ? ) Jeep, I had find out more. Can anyone tell me more about this Jeep modification, its operation, why it was designed? Any info would be appreciated, thanks. Richard Grosvenor
Hello Steve, I remember a while back that Classic Military Vehicle magazine did a feature on a scale model of one of these that was offered on Ebay. From memory, it said that the model was a feasibility study for the full size vehicle. I'm sure though, that the article said that no full size mock ups were ever made, but it looks like that was wrong. Unless of course, that this one is a modern made replica for a museum etc. I wonder how many "Top People" were involed in such a White Elephant? Regards Richard. Mark
They done a prototype for testing after the war I think to see if it could be used for going into battle, like a quick response vehicle along with flying tanks etc.
Richard Farrant
I am sure that the machine shown, is a replica built for display at the Museum of Army Flying, Middle Wallop. Richard

Degsy
Several companies including Avon and Dunlop made tyres with that tread pattern, about as much use as slicks.
Richard Grosvenor
Hello, I hadn't realised, but I had a new set of tyres in that pattern on my first Land Rover. They were made by Colway and was the best part of the whole vehicle! I thought they were ideal for road and a little bit off road work. I would love to get another set for my present Land Rover, currently on Super Mud Pluggers which are great fun :? on wet winter tarmac! Cheers Richard
Guest matt
Hi Richard, I too have found that pattern of tyre very good,I did try to buy a set but it would appear they havn't been made for a few years. Matt.

Well worth a look for anyone not aware of it. Google away and enjoy! Edited May 5, 2011 by N.O.S.
