phendriks82
Hello a year ago i purchased my willys jeep, and were just starting to restore it. it seems to be turning out a lot more Original than it was (i knew it had Original body chassis and engine, but more and more Original details seem te be appearing...) but THE most intriguing detail seems to lie under 2 coats of paint..the last owner had converted it in to a canadian unit jeep (with matching green brown colour)
beneath that is is a dark (NOT nato ) green,
and beneath that on the red is the Original olove drag HOWEVER on the hood an Original hood number has appeared, but on the front bumper an 82 AB marking has appeared..<so my question is : are there any sources that list which jeeps where assigned to unit? ie how can i find out if this is Originalmy second question is: did Original ignitions (ie where the keys go in) have numbers below are some pics

Edited September 15, 2017 by phendriks82

Nick Johns
The Hood or bonnet number and bumper markings look rather spurious, a more recent addition, just go to any show and see how many Jeeps are marked as 101, or 82 AB, Jeeps have been in preservation now for so many years and have had so many makeovers, the bonnet, or hood, number should always start with the numbers 20....., designates "trucks reconnaisance", yours appears to start with 47 which is incorrect, unless it was prefixed with letter M for a British Army Jeep or letters CM for Canadian military Jeep ie. CM 47....., but Not for an 82 Airborne Jeep There are No records of which Jeep was applied to a particular unit Edited September 16, 2017 by Nick Johns
earlymb
I agree with the above comment, I think these are post-WW2 markings applied by a previous owner. Also, the '82AB' is on the wrong place of the bumper, it should be on the passenger's side (left when facing the jeep).
phendriks82
Actually the paint matches the history, it seems the jeep has been in army storage up untill 89, after which ive been the 3rd owner.. so no I dont think its a remake.. but can never be sure
Great War truck
Army storage up until 1989? French army?
earlymb
A lot can happen to a jeep in 75 years, but these markings aren't correct to WW2 regulations. I'm afraid I have to stand by my earlier comment, sorry.
Great War truck
Hello a year ago i purchased my willys jeep, and were just starting to restore it. it seems to be turning out a lot more Original than it was (i knew it had Original body chassis and engine, but more and more Original details seem te be appearing...)QUOTE] What other original details have you found other than the markings (which I would agree that the 82nd ones don't appear to be original)? Do you have any more photos please?

Great War truck
RAF blue? Well that will open a new can of worms!
phendriks82
the markings actually ARE Original, just not the HQ 20 , Original hoodnumbers and star have appeared, but VERY strangely also a crude writing saying "Hey u" on the very very first (Original) layer of paint on the side of the vehicle... ill try to upload some pics... still would like to paint it raf blue (dont give a s*** about can of worms, beause everyone seems to be an expert these days..) however if the markings are Original its going to be an 82nd jeep ill upload some pics. earlymb
I find the lack of original primer a bit odd, it might indicate the paint was completely stripped during an earlier rebuild? As for RAF blue, the RAF had loads of WW2 jeeps in service after 1946 too so it's certainly not historical incorrect.
