Hello all,

I've just acquired what appears to be an unrestored Pyrene fire extinguisher, dated 3.44. It looks to be painted brown (photos attached).

Many of these that you see around now are highly polished brass but I think it's unlikely that they were like this when used in military service during the war.

Were these usually painted a standard colour in service?

Ian.

Hi Ian,

I have one from 3-43 also in brown. The color is even visible under the damaged operators instruction label indicating that they originally were painted before the label was added.

Regards,

Danny

Untill British Olive Drab was adopted in early 44 Brown was the standard base colour for British Army vehicles and equipment so they appear to be just reflecting current regulations.
