CMP-Phil
Hi Just spotted this English language version of the story on MLU http://news.yahoo.com/german-authorities-seize-tank-other-wwii-weapons-raid-115051714.html Not always sure of the accuracy of the reporting so if some one who can read both languages reads the stories do they match? Cheers Phil Edited July 3, 2015 by CMP-Phil Add question
Great War truck
Is this the Panther that was found in Hardwicks of Ewell scrapyard many years ago? Yes, I believe so. In the Telegraph now. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/europe/germany/11716177/Second-World-War-tank-and-anti-aircraft-gun-found-hidden-in-basement-of-villa-in-Germany.html No tracks now? antar
Yes, I believe so. I would suggest that the tracks were split to make it easier to remove without causing potential damage to final drives and rest of drive train. Great War truck
There was a photo of it in W&T taken about 30 years ago being driven in to the basement. I wonder why they couldn't drive it out.
Whittingham warrior
It appears according to the local mayor that the vehicle was trundling about in the 'snow catastrophe of 1978' So it wasn't some secret weapon ready to spring from its lair and head for Poland! hummermark
I bet the German military will not scrap that like they did to the poor churchills they sent to the scrapers and bet said musuem that took no interest in churchills would give a different response for that. draganm
can anyone confirm if the one that's been seized is the so-called "Flick Panther"? It does not appear to be the same machine to me? No commanders Cupola in this old photo, and the seized one appears to be missing the gun lock Edited July 7, 2015 by draganm
Nick Johns
Is this the Panther that was found in Hardwicks of Ewell scrapyard many years ago? Yes, apparently it is the same Panther tank bought by the now elderley German owner from Hardwicks yard in 1977, they had given up trying to cut it up! It was one of several German tanks assembled at the captured factory after the war by the British Army and used for evaluation by FVEE later FVRDE it was then later sold for scrap to Hardwicks. pic of tank being loaded at Hardwickshttps://www.flickr.com/photos/63949809@N03/6916755222 The Sdkfz Foundations restored Jagdpanzer was another tank assembled from parts, then after evaluation trials ended up as a range target on Pirbright ranges Edited July 8, 2015 by Nick Johns
draganm
I guess it's the same machine, owner is reported to be one Klaus-Dieter F. which appears to be Klaus-Dieter Flick. Here's a petition asking the prosecutor to return his stuff and fix all the damage they did to the road and his cellar. https://translate.googleusercontent.com/translate_c?act=url&depth=1&hl=en&ie=UTF8&prev=_t&rurl=translate.google.com&sl=auto&tl=en&u=https://www.change.org/p/staatsanwaltschaft-kiel-r%25C3%25BCckgabe-des-beschlagnahmten-milit%25C3%25A4rger%25C3%25A4tes-heikendorf&usg=ALkJrhgaYjNmlb3pJhj0xWuoeu4DsdY-xg
