guykay
There is a ferret brake servo for sale on eBay. How easy is it to fit to my 2/3 ferret which at present has no servo fitted, and consequently braking is shall we say a rather leisurely affair!! Starfire
Depends how yours has been modified to run without one; in a stock setup it should just bolt right in. Do you have the manuals and illustrated parts guide? Cheers, Terry
guykay
I don't think my vehicle was ever fitted with a servo. The brakes would be optimistically called adequate. I think that the servo was fitted to later vehicles, and wondered if it would be possible to fit one to my vehicle
REME 245
The big wheel marks had them. Not sure about any others.

I think that the servo was fitted to later vehicles, and wondered if it would be possible to fit one to my vehicle From memory, I think it was the uparmoured versions that had the servo fitted. It entails a pipe from the master cylinder to the servo, which runs under the gearbox and engine. Ideally the gearbox needs taking out to secure it in place, The pipe is about 7 feet long. In my mind the servo made very little noticeable difference, but there again if the Ferret was carrying more weight then maybe the servo was just compensating for that. Richard Farrant
The big wheel marks had them. Not sure about any others. Different brakes, the Mk4 had disc brakes and used mineral oil as fluid. Many was the soldier who did not check and got his brake fluids/oils mixed up. I have had to deal with the consequences of swollen seals.
Toner
My Mk1/2 has a servo. It is a Lockheed item, I was under the impression they are relatively common, at least in British service. My ferret was in service from 1966 to 1991, so that may affect things.
