tankdriver Posted May 28, 2014 Share Posted May 28, 2014 (edited) I have been out of Vehicles fo about 10 years, when my Daughter's health required me to sell, my M5a1 Stuart, and most everything else I owned. I picked up a couple junk halftracks, and a gun range 57mm, but never managed to get a place to work on them. So I lost interest. Well I managed to make a trade, to get my 57mm restored, and sold my gun collection to purchase a Motorpool ready WC63. I picked it up last Saturday, and my cannon is almost finished. So looking around for all the info I can found on both items. Thanks for having me. Frank Here is a couple of photos....... This is my 57mm when I first got it, and where it is now, then my WC63..... Just north of you sometimes, but for the last many years way east of you.. frank, welcome....i know its painful parting with things you have lovingly collected and restored as i had a very small but similar incident when i sold my restored 1959 rockola jukebox from my collection to fund my girlfriends operation, but its what you have to do, and yours shows what a great dad you are ! Not sure I'd say rare, but complete, yes very hard to find. After the war most vet's did not try to save history, they just used them up. I purchased 2 halftracks that both had the rear armor cut off and used by a rice farmer in Arkansas till they were worn out, then the farmer sold both drive axles to catfish farmers to aerate there ponds. My uncle's last job in WW2 in the Pacific was starting brand new Sherman's and running them off in to the ocean. There is a WW2 fighter base close to here Walnut Ridge Arkanasa that they built a smelter on the base, the would fly new, and almost new P47's and P51's and melt them down. Sad isn't it.....
