Danny152 Posted November 30, 2013 Posted November 30, 2013 Hiya all. Not for me but for a army unit. Somewhere in Germany is a Sherman OPV. It is unsure if it is a gate guardian or on a range. It was spotted in the late 1980s-90s. Any help or lead on this will be brill. Regards, Danny Quote
mcspool Posted November 30, 2013 Posted November 30, 2013 What do you mean by OPV? As in Optionally Piloted Vehicle? Quote
Danny152 Posted November 30, 2013 Author Posted November 30, 2013 OPV stands for observation post vehicle. They were fitted with a wooden barrel. Regards, Danny Quote
mcspool Posted November 30, 2013 Posted November 30, 2013 Could it be this one, now in the museum at Sinsheim: http://www.panoramio.com/photo/35857718 This was used as an observation vehicle on a German range (but it is NOT a Sherman OP). Quote
Danny152 Posted November 30, 2013 Author Posted November 30, 2013 Thanks for the picture but it defo a Sherman mark with a wooden barrel. And the model name apologises, having served on warrior OPVs for ten years that's what we know them as now. But that would make sense just OP mate Regards, Danny Quote
mcspool Posted November 30, 2013 Posted November 30, 2013 Sherman with a wooden barrel in Germany? Does not ring a bell.... Re. the Sherman OP, I do know it had a fake barell, somehow I think it was made of steel. However, I just found the attached picture here. Let me know what you see.... Quote
Danny152 Posted November 30, 2013 Author Posted November 30, 2013 Yes wooden, this is one from a RHA unit that got stuck in the Wittmann engagement in 1944. Quote
