mikesteven Posted July 13, 2012 Posted July 13, 2012 Hi My headlights stopped working a few weeks ago for no apparent reason. The full beam still works OK from the indicator stalk and all the other lights are fine. I think I've traced the fault to the relay box behind the dashboard switch panel. I've attached an example pic - it's the rectangular box on the right. Rather than pay £££ for a new panel (everything's fine apart from the relay box) I was wondering if I could DIY something similar that would do the same job. I'm no electrician - that's for sure! - but wondered if I could buy a modern relay that would do the same job? mike Quote
ArtistsRifles Posted July 13, 2012 Posted July 13, 2012 Is that the I/R relay? If so - look on Disco Daves web site for instructions on by passing it. Takes out the I/R circuits - but who uses them in the civvy world?? Quote
ruxy Posted July 14, 2012 Posted July 14, 2012 The IR switch is a PITA and probably best shorted out , info. here :- http://www.land-rover-lightweight.co.uk/Infrared.html Loads of associated info. + wiring diagrams - here :- http://www.land-rover-lightweight.co.uk/Index.html Quote
mike65 Posted July 14, 2012 Posted July 14, 2012 Agree with the above. My first step would be to bypass the IR switch. You have 4 wired here. Basically the Brown and the Blue/pink one can be disconnected and tapped off. You do not need them. The Ble/black wire from the 6 way needs to be connected straight to the Bloe one which is th headlight supply to the steering wheel switch for main/dip. The beam flash is a seperate supply. There is a wiring diagram on the site for a vehicle with the IR switch removed. http://www.land-rover-lightweight.co.uk/Images/Electrical/ImageMineNew.jpg Mike Quote
